Immersion suits.
 

After some advice as to the current thinking on what to wear under your immersion suit?

The suit types with the boot attached and unlined would seem to keep you dry enough but offer very little in the way of thermal retention properties?

I remember many moons ago that along with the issue immersion suit we were also issued what I would describe as very fluffy track pants and sweat top.

Just wondering what guys were wearing under their suits these days. That sounds a bit pervy I know but it is a serious question. :ok:

Immersion Suit manufacture Multifabs / Survival One also produce a thermal undergarment for use with their suits.
Available in long leg, long arm or short leg, short arm - I would say this is the best solution used in combination with standard thermals. :}

In the RAF we were supposed to wear them when the sea temp was 10 degrees C or less and at other times when rescue might take longer than the predicted survival time due to local SAR deficiencies....

In the 70's there was a two-piece white (when new!) acrilan pile thermal "undergarment" later replaced by a one-piece green fleece "bunny suit". This was worn in addition to cotton long-johns and long-sleeved cotton T-shirt.

It made you quite "bulky" and warm......

I use the weezle undersuit it is absolutely superb. very comfortable regulates body temperature well in both warm and cold conditions and is not too bulky.

Known as the 'Womble Suit' after the TV program. I still have mine.

Most of us wear the Gul one piece fleece which is V warm and comfortable.

Thermals
 

This is a popular debate also among members of the diving community who also wear dry suits even though the suits are much bulkier.

Divers wear an all-in-one "boiler suit" called a woolly bear. These come in different grades depending on the thermal requirement, time of year etc. These are available from any online diving retailer.

Another solution growing in popularity due to comfort and heat is a kit from Fourth Element. These are fleece lined trousers and top.
