AW139 Type Rating
I heard Agusta USA wants $68,000 USD for their type rating course for the AW139 which consists of ground school and simulator. They say they their is a big demand for the course. Do you think the price will come down?
|
Not in our 'flying life' time!
Let me ask you, do you think it should? Are they not offering value for money? |
Well, I could do a S76 course for about $24,000 USD. And there are a lot more S76's than AW139's out there flying.
At least the S76 tailbooms stay intact!!!!!! |
$68k and worth every cent its an awesome aircraft !
|
Awesome aircraft? Maybe, when it works!
ATPMBA, where is that type rating course for the 76 for 24k$? Which variant? Cheers |
in my experience most people who complain about it havent fllown it,
I think the main issue is not the serviceability as such but the delay getting bits from Agoooooooooosta, when that is sorted well be larfing. |
Hi Darling,
How are things. There are 139 positions opening up at aerogulf soon, but they are still waiting for what is going on with the contract renewal. But the 139 type ratings will be done at ADA possibly. They don't fancy sending them to Italy. Anyhow lovely aircraft, I think if you are prepared to spend 68,000 or 24,000 of your own money, then what are you doing as a pilot........ fluffy |
For $68,000 I'd want top quality organisation and instruction. When I did mine at Sesto in Italy the organisation was farcical in the extreme and the instruction not much better. That was a while ago and I understand that some of the clowns have been replaced, so hopefully the situation has changed for the better. There are good instructors there and you'll soon know who they are once you arrive.

Helimut,
I believe the 24k covered all variants. It's just GS and sim time. Also, the 24k is a contract pilots rate which 20% off the list price. |
Aerogulf
Do Aerogulf fly on FAA licences? Do they take expat co jos's?
|
Mmmm ...
Think you may find any vacancies at AeroGulf may well be filled by Aussie & Kiwi friends escaping from Abu Dhabi ..... :} Hows that for a fire starter? ..... ;) |
A couple of guys I know did the conversion 4 months ago and also had the same feelings as you,(Epiphany) a total mess they said.
|
Does anyone in here care to inform how much a JAA type rating for the AW139 costs today and which companies provide it?
|
200+ AW139's in worldwide service currently? Is that including the ones without tailbooms?
|
Hi Heli Ice,
I enquired a little while ago and it was bout $US60k IFR/VFR course...cant imagine how they can charge that much for a Simulator. But i guess its supply and demand??? That was through Italian Agusta Westland... D1 |
dodgy1
Thank you :ok: Yes it is expensive. But why charge less if the customer is ready to pay the set amount? |
Bolkow.... I assume the S-76 totals don't include the ones that lost main rotor blades?
|
