How many R22's currently in-service?

Morning Guys,

Does anybody now how many R22's (of all types) are CURRENTLY flying around world wide?

I know they have made more than 3000 of them, but how many are still around?

Many Thanks,
CRAN
:ok:

I'm not much of a betting person, and as far as that goes there have been some very boring things to bet on, like elections, of late for the dabbler.

The latest serious OZ horse race was fairly exciting for the bookies I think, with the quinella proving more than 520,000 dollars.

However before somone like Rob Rich comes up with some earth shattering factual statistical data, heh heh, I'll take a dabble on there being less than 60% of the originals still being airworthy

How many R22's currently in-service?

Too many!

Or is it WAY too many..... :)

I've heard that timed out airframes can be quite difficult to get your hands on. So considering that, I'd say there's probably more than 60%. Taking a wee guess and taking into account that there have been a decent amount of FUBAR'd airframes I'm gonna go with about 75%.

I'm bored so I thought I would add NZ and Aus numbers.

NZ- 167
AUS- 438

I counted the NZ numbers myself after a long champagne brekky so I'd better say give or take a few.

Then I would say there are more than a few un-registered ones around so who knows...

darrenphughes 6th Nov 2008 23:05

yeah, that's what I was thinking. If that's the case I done most of my training in the only Beta2 in the US!!:P

Tarman 7th Nov 2008 09:10

It's simple Send someone out to count the main rotor blades then divide by 2 :ok:

ivakontrol 7th Nov 2008 20:18

That's 72.3% so far...............

Runway101 11th Nov 2008 11:38

Add the other European countries and you are well beyond 80%...

Vertical T/O 11th Nov 2008 22:50

I think there is 18 on the Irish register.

krypton_john 11th Nov 2008 23:39

164 r22s on the NZ register, 311 robbies in total.

topendtorque 12th Nov 2008 22:56

Aha - these numbers are astounding.
Before they become too daunting,
else my friend Nigelh will have an apolectic fit,
we should refer again to the original question.

How many are in service?
not necessarily those which are registered
and gathering dust as mothballs or worse.

krypton_john 12th Nov 2008 22:58

I suspect that is impossible to determine!

Cyclic Hotline 13th Nov 2008 01:12

OK, so how many have crashed? Maybe that is an easier number to calculate?

Where is Lu when you need him? :(
