Heave Ho Hoist

Fellow Rotorheads,

Am trying, with limited success to find out some info on a piece of equipment I last came across a number of years ago called the "Heave Ho Hoist". Used as a handraulic secondary hoist method, should the bolt on one fail. Any assistance in the form of suppliers, manufacturers etc would be greatly appreciated.

The 'Heave-Ho hoist' was carried by the SAR Sea Kings until it was replaced by an electrical emergency hoist. The 'Heave-Ho' was a block and tackle affair with only a 2 to 1 ratio. The operating length was about 40ft usable. Trying to recover a single person on your own was a struggle and the co-pilot needed to be co-opted into giving a hand. Fortunately never had to use it in anger. I suggest there are far better alternatives on the market for an emergency hoist now.

Heave Ho

A complete waste of time and totally impractical in my experience.

It worked in Malaysia in the late sixties when a Bristow Whirlwind pilot ditched off the East Coast. He was recued by a RMAF Nuri using a Heave Ho rope and pulley.
