Flying in Crete

Hello All

Does anybody have any info about flying in Crete, like some names of Helicopter operators and maintenace compaines there and where they flying out of?

Plus if you fell like sharing you experice of flying there would be super helpful.

Its all for abit of information gathering nothing too serious, just not having a very googlelicious day

Thank you :ok:

Haven't flown in Crete but almost every other Greek island.

It is very straight forward but the one thing you must remember is that you must submit a paper flight plan to ATC for every flight. Sounds antiquated but that's what the Greeks want.

Crete - R44 SFH

If anybody knows of a 44 in Crete that may be available for SFH I would greatly appreciate any details !

As far as I know there are not any helicopter operators based at Crete. People rent helicopters from operators in Athens and go with them wherever they want. I heard though that Airlift (Airlift A.E.- Υπηρεσίες Αερομεταφορών) was planning to send to Crete (for summer only), a EC120.

You might check with the German airborne, they may have something on file. :}

There's a few in Cyprus now too.

Hedski 18th May 2014 20:40

Could one be hired?

500 above 19th May 2014 06:09

I'm sure you can hire one. try here :- Home Page - Cyprus Paphos Helicopter rides | Cyprus Paphos Helicopter flights | Cyprus Paphos Helicopter Tours | Cyprus Paphos Filght Training School | Cyprus Paphos Helicopter Hire | Sightseeing

Also, theres a Hughes 300 on the island, private owner but does deals so I'm led to believe.

The second R44 is also privately owned but the owner has let Skyraiders use it before, so could be available.

There are also a few gas turbine kit built helicopters here.

VFR flying in Cyprus is opening up, slowly. The scenery on the western tip of the island (the Akamas peninsula) is some of the most stunning I've ever seen. For you palm tree drivers, there is a landing site on the Akamas that Skyraiders use, one that is their base of ops in Geroskipos near Paphos, a heliport in Limassol marina, a heliport (mostly for offshore work) in Limassol Port, one in Latchi, north of Paphos, Ayia Napa on the East coast and obviously Paphos and Larnaka International Airports. I believe Nicosia is only for the UN H500 use. Akrotiri is not available to civil traffic.

I know for a fact that the Hughes has landed at one of the top Paphos golf courses, Elea Estates and an Air Harrods helo has landed at Aphrodite Hills Golf resort (probably the islands premier resort, near Paphos) so off airport landings are not impossible.

I hope this helps. If any of you get out here, PM me.

Not sure who these guys are, their fleet certainly is not at Paphos Airport at the moment, but may be worth contacting. http://www.cht-cy.com/index.php?mtyp...t_sub&id=staff

There is a Hughes 500 that may be available http://www.aeronautilus.com.cy/index.htm
