Big helicopters in the UK

Does anyone else run big public transport helicopters in the UK, other than British International (Scilly Island shuttles)? Other than them, what else is big in the UK (or near continental Europe?)

Thanks

How big is 'big'?

206 jock 28th Aug 2008 16:49

The bigger the better! I'm hatching a cunning plan.....:8

Must be passenger configured though.

Is a S76 big enough? A few of those on AOCs around the SE of UK.

For anything bigger, you'll need to contact either the NS operators or the RAF.

Harrords provide pilots for a private S-92, weather they charter it is another thing. I think it's N-reg...

I doubt Harrods will let you charter the S-92 as the owner is very particular about its use from what I understand.

What about the S-61 that Harrods used to use, isnt that still floating around the UK or Ireland somewhere.

FYI, the other 'onshore' S92s & S61 (that I know of) are private only.

'The bigger the better! I'm hatching a cunning plan.....'

Is this building to the worlds most elaborate practical joke

Are you saying there is a private S61 in the UK?

And more than one S92?

Can you give details ps?

ManOnTheSticks 29th Aug 2008 10:47

I think that the private S61 which Harrods operated is G-VIPZ (was G-LAWS & G-DAWS), currently flying the line at Penzance with BI.

Nope, 'fraid I can't. These types of 'private' people want to remain very private.

But, the information is out there in the public domain. If you know where to look for it... ;)

The S61 G-VIPZ is shown on G-info as being owned by VERITAIR LTD but who the real "owner" is anyones guess!

CVR 29th Aug 2008 20:05

G-VIPZ is Irish Owned, registered to Veritair and leased to BI for the Penzance to Scilly Isles route. If you need any info please PM me....

Bravo without the Zulu, not a very helpful reply, was it? But perhaps I was not specific enough in my question.

Others, more helpful, have indicated that the S61 is hardly what might be considered a "private" machine, privately owned no doubt, but leased exclusively for commercial purposes. This is not really what constitutes most people's idea of a "private" helicopter. Numbers of commercial aircraft must be privately owned on that basis.

But what of the S92(s). Privately operated in the accepted sense, or leased like the '61?

Bravo73 29th Aug 2008 23:18

I guess that I was wrong about the S61. :O

But, yes, the S92s are private.

Ned-Air2Air 30th Aug 2008 02:30

The two S-92s are "strictly" private in every sense of the term.

Owned by overseas interests and kept for their use when they are in the UK.

Apart from that nothing else to tell.
