It was a QinetiQ trial about 8 or 10 years ago in conjunction with the SBS. A chap I know was in the Chinook, and reckoned one of the crew very nearly got clobbered by RIB.

Singapore Air force demonstrates this quite often, though the area they practice is more of fresh water ;)

British video and UKSF group. While the work is in theory still possible, the engineering burden of salt water ops is so high that the usual procedure is to winch the boat up instead.
It's the kind of thing that looks great in theory but the reality is it's a last resort and is thus rarely if ever practiced anymore. |
