looking good anyone know when it enters service ?

First day on line this Saturday Oct 13th, will be operating out of Leeds base Sat/Sun, then from Sheffield Mon-Fri. Callsign Helimed98.

(Ps the pitch cases have now been painted white instead of yellow, so it looks the same as G-SASH apart from the weather radar dome of course)

Single pilot ops, no plans for night HEMS at the moment. However, as this is a SPIFR machine, night transfers are not out of the question.

so who does one speak to to enquire about flying for YAS?

So why does one wait 4 years before asking a question about the Young Aviators Society?

If I'd been listening more intently then I might have been able to record the conversation verbatim. However at around 3pm this afternoon I heard an unusual call from HeliMed98 requesting departure clearance to which the response was

ATC: "Do you mean HeliMed 99?"

H98: "Negative, this is HeliMed 98 Echo, the Sheffield air ambulance...."

ATC: "HeliMed 98 Echo, after departure leave the zone via..."

Seems not everyone at EGNM is up to speed with its existence. I was hovering by Lima at the time and watching her come out between the hangers at Multiflight followed by 2x360 spot turns and then a no messing up-up-and-away into the murk that covered most of Yorkshire today was a real pleasure.

tyl3r - we did inform LBA ATC on two separate occasions that it would be '98 flying on Saturday / Sunday, seems like the message didn't filter down to the coal face. We'll let them off this one though, 'cos they do a brilliant job fitting us in and around their traffic, always at short notice.

Personally I wanted the Sheffield Aircraft to be Helimed66 to avoid any such ATC / Pilot confusion, but got overruled by the suits who knew better. :ugh:

It's hard enough remembering when you are Alpha, Echo or Zulu without sequential numbers to mess with your head as well!

drugsdontwork - first stop PAS. But remember, you need to look good on telly.:)

Thanks Flax, cant promise to look good on telly but can promise to know the patch. Still flying big yellow things for the queen at the mo but starting to look at next step.

Difficult decisions for the ex mil SAR guys; £39014 year one salary for a hems captain at a PAS unit or £69000 for a year one sar captain at a CHC unit.

Depends whether one is fed up hovering over the sea at night, I suppose!

Quick somebody call Colin Pilger - "Beagle2" Mars probe actually ended up in Lincolnshire. No wonder they couldn't spot it - they had the Hubble pointing the wrong way!

Last time I did that was in the middle of summer at Flappits Quarry near Keighley.

Flaxton's top tip for summer quarry operations - before landing place cabin vent to "OFF" position thereby ensuring that brownout conditions exist only outside the aircraft.:O
