Westland Scout on ebay - UK

There is a Westland Scout up for auction on ebay (330168047426) Can anyone give any information on these helicopters ?

Apart from the permit to fly limitations would one be a a route to cheap turbine flying (cheap is used as relative term)

What are they like to fly

Maintenance seems to be available 8k per year including all bits required(must be small print!!)

would one be a handfull for a 150hr ppl - R22/R44 plus a bit of Gazelle and EC120 ?

Thanks for any advice

Richard

Well, they sent me off in one at 200 hours after only flying a Sioux, so it can't be that bad! Admittedly that was after a full Army course.

Great to fly, it was one of the few machines that exactly suited my style of flying. Autos are fast - if you throw a manhole cover out before you start, you will be on the ground before the manhole cover! (only joking, but it was a real culture shock after the Sioux! May be different after a Robbie :))

I'd say go for it if you can. You don't get many chances to fly classic aircraft

Sounds fun and looks like a nice tidy little craft. I reckon the small print is that the maintenance is re-negotiated after 2008 which is when the expensive 500 hour components will start to crop up.

Queen of the skies!

Fantastic brick built helicopter and almost soldier proof. With good type training there should be no reason why you cant 'handle' it! Easy to maintain too!

As Phil said, it drops like a brick in Auto and I believe more were crashed during EOL practice than on operations.

I regret not getting the chance to fly it!

Something along the lines of ".. unless flown"

Dont the blades have to come off those things for checks at not a lot of hours?

If so, 8k a year maintenance? I rather doubt it.
