Portreath Airfield
Can anyone advise if Portreath Airfield (shown as disused on the map) is available for PPR use for a heli as I may need to visit Portreath in the next couple of weeks.
If yes does anyone have contact details ? If no is there any where really close you can suggest ? Thanks Richard PS tried a search cannot find anything |
I think you'll find that it's still owned by the MOD.

Locations near Portreath
You probably know this already but Perranporth & Truro airfields would probably be the closest licensed fields (about 9 miles away by road)
Perranporth 01872 552266 Truro 01872 560488 Tehidy Golf Club might also be worth a try as they are only a couple of miles away. 01209 842208 Failing that there is also the Aviary Court Hotel http://www.aviarycourthotel.co.uk/index.html I seem to recall them taking helicopters before. Hope this helps! |
peranporth
Thanks for the info gents.
I understand from a local that fixed wing seems to be using the field - if I get any more details I will post thxs richard |
Just read an article about Portreath. Apparently it is in use by RAF and Army helos. Try ringing Culdrose and asking.

RAF Portreath
Just out of interest in the war years the Control room for Portreath was on one side of the valley. The airfield was on the other side.begining of the 80's the control room was still the being used as a club called "The op's room".I'll have to have a look see to see if the control room is still there.

Portreath is only available to Military and Coastguard aircraft. Your nearest field would be either Truro or Perranporth.

There's a blister type aircraft hangar at Portreath or Nancekuke as it was known.
Hangar = aircraft based there despite it being off-limits and MOD. SB |
I overflew Portreath a few days ago.
Of the four original runways, one still has 'active' markings: portreath - Google Maps |
There's a blister type |
There's a certain irony in that phrase |
I believe they used to have SARin there quite often.

Its always been my understanding that if you land there you will be arrested. Mind you, it has not stopped me from doing autos with students over the airfield. Graham from Truro airfield.

Graham, my curiosity is aroused. Was that you on 9th July?
