I believe there was an accident a few years ago in Italy when a CL-215 dropped a load on a fire crew. Unfortunately, I understand they weren't so lucky.

Safety Case study....part-time pilot flying a 40 year old single engine Huey at 8,000 feet msl in 90 degree F air while throwing water at a raging forest fire???:uhoh::uhoh::uhoh:

Some of theose single engine Hueys have a 5,000 lb. empty weight and 1,800 horse engines. Don't write them off as effective fire fighting tools.

As to state owned, operated and crewed ships?? That is a totally different bag of worms.

Also looking at the video that terrain is not 8,000 ft msl in Wenachee, Wa.

Don't knock the Huey
 

I have the privilege of flying a Huey which is older than I am. We carry out fire fighting operations and regularly operate with density altitudes well above 8000' and still operate safely with a ton of water in the bucket. She is the queen of the skies.:ok:
