Homebuilt Helicopters
Hi
I am currently doing some research on the above - have found some really good stuff online - alot of it is outdated though - Anyone involved in this market or have any current information on market leaders and new products available - i say products and not helicopters because it is scary to see some of the homebuilts being flown out there . . . . .! Cheers |
theres a little one called r22 i hear ....doesnt look very safe to me :uhoh:

The Rotorway springs to mind, and there's also a single seater thing called a CH-7 Angel (French or Swiss?). Some videos at www.griffin-helicopters.co.uk/videos/. I also read something in Loop (there was a pic too) a few months back about a new 2 seater coming soon- can't remember the name, though. It might be on their website, www.loop.aero, it was being designed as a modern challenger for the R22 from what I recall. Not a helicopter as such, but there's also the RAF 2000 gyroplane!

With regard to the R22 challenger, was it the Guimbal Cabri? http://www.jiepie.com/files/guimbal/cabri_mpg1.mpg http://www.jiepie.com/files/guimbal/...ull%20768k.wmv PR |
There's lots of stuff on the Prune about Rotorways helicopters - try a search.
|
I would like one of these - much more stable than a RAF 2000.
The radial engined version would be nicest. http://www.littlewingautogyro.com/index.html |
PR,
Might have been the Capri- it was only a small picture but was quite a nice looking machine. I seem to remember it having a smaller engine, Rotax or something? Si |
Apparently it was designed by the same guy that creaated the Astar....
Its a very nice little machine, I watched a demo he did at an airshow (online somewhere) and it handled very well. |
Hi guys,
The Guimbal Cabri is designed by an ex-eurocopter engineer. It is not a homebuilt helicopter though. My flight school in France (Ixair) has already purchased a few, but they haven't arrived yet. It will have a 3 bladed rotor system and a small fenestron. Still a piston engine heli though (I'm not a fan). I hope the rotor has more inertia than the R 22. |

Im Dangerous.
Are you looking for various kits, or are you planning to design and build a machine from scratch? Bug. |
Thanks a mill for all the info lads - plenty to keep me busy! Bug - just really researching the whole industry - i'm not that big into building stuff - lego is as far as i go!

Hi Imdangerous:
And no doubt you are! I told that damn fool Igor Sik... whatshisface and Larry Bell Stanley Hiller, Frank Robinson, them flyin' MACHINES are out to GETCHA! And Wilbur and Orville and Bill Boeing all agreed with me. From beyond the grave(s). You are going to mix with a fine mess of knee-tremblers, onanists and chickenlittlers on this aspect of this website. But if you are indeed interested in experimental and developmental helicopters, you could do worse than investigate the Mosquito helicopter. It is a single-seat Canadian designed machine, currently built in Florida. The Kite |
Just out of interest has anybody noticed that when there is a mini 500 for sale it never has more than 25 hours on the clock? My old R22 Alpha is coming up on it 8800 hour (No.4) rebuild.....
|
Bug, how is your proj going? My workload is skyhigh at the mo, but i'm curious about the ring rotor...
