I ran across this article a few minutes ago....makes for some discussion about the V-22 Osprey and its problems with Vortex Ring State....or not.

Seriously though, what the aircraft did at Farnborough in it's 2006 display was most impressive, and they did have quite a bit of ground speed on if I remember correctly.
Intersting to see how it pans out.

Since vortex ring state is related to downwash velocity, it could be argued that the tilt rotor with it's higher downwash has less of a problem than a smaller helo with low disc loading.

The V-22 could autorotate if 4000+fpm down is desired :} no VRS in an auto!

I would guess the tiltrotor is not optimised for autorotation, has it ever been done?

Autorotations are not very interesting as compared to a running landing with the prop rotors stuck in the forward flight mode.

Not an informed opinion by any means but looking at the wash out on those blades, I would imagine the conventional autorotative section to be quite small. Any tilt rotor drivers out there able to comment?

without reading any articles. I'd imagin that if you got into the wobbles Roll Wise while Near or in maximum RoD for given Tilt. you would probably put one side (Down wing side for given wobble) in or over Maximum Rate of Decent. Given Either in or near. the resultant attempt to corect would most certainly create a greater induced flow due to the now extra disk loading on that side. and if insufficient alt is avail, a pilot may grab full Colective and Just Blow it all Out One side.

Kinda make Sence??
