FAA IR Recurrency
 
Hi

Anyone know where an FAA IR(H) recurrency can be done in UK? Needs a flight training device e.g. Fly-It or equivelant and a CFII

NB requirement is recurrency not revalidation or testing

No replies to date to my earlier post.

Just in case the post was overlooked by someone who may have some useful info...

Anybody know of a UK based FTD in which FAA IR recurrency can be done?

proberbly the nearest you would get to would be a biannual with a cfii not sure what a recurrency is

You're right, needs a CFII and a flight training device (e.g. Fly-It). A reccurrency involves six approaches, intercepting & tracking radials and demonsrating holds: basically keeping your hand in and not allowing the IR to lapse completely (then re-examination or test with approaved check pilot becomes necessary).

or you can just do a proficiency check with a cfii... depending on your skills it's probably quicker than doing 6 approaches.

Yes, that's an option, but an expensive one here (UK). Doing a recurrency in an FTD will represent more IR flying too.

There are no Flyit machines in the UK that are approved for JAA use, so it's unlikely there are any at all.
There are two machines that are AATD approved (more than the Flyit has) and JAA approved as Flight Navigation Procedures Trainer (FNPT) Level II. They are at Police Aviation Services in Gloucester or Helicopter Services at Wycombe Air Park.
Give them a call to see what can be arranged.

The Flight Navigation Procedures Trainer (FNPT) Level II that is based at PAS in Gloucester is the same one which HAI in Florida now use. Only problem is, don't think any of the IRI's hold a FAA CFII, which if you are outside your 6 months is what you require.
I know of a few CFII here in the UK (of which I'm one) but it may be Instructor availability, location and FNPT all being at the same place and the same time that may be the problem.

Don't know the costing of the FNPT here, but may well be worth booking yourself a cheapo return ticket to Florida, visiting the Heli Expo and popping into HAI at the same time. Make a holiday of it!! :ok:

Thanks both, really helpful.

Think this time around a trip to FL may be the best way to get several things done.

Still, good to know where I can practice appoaches and keep current in the UK. I will give them a call.
