Shutting down Super Pumas offshore
 

Been on the 61 for quite a spell, with lots of shutting down for extended periods offshore, often in cold inclement weather. The ole girl has yet to disappoint yours truly (well, at least on getting going again offshore). Dispatch rates have been phenomenal onshore, and maintenance required offshore is a rare thing indeed. Just wondering how the Super Puma would fare in the same environment? I figure more than a few of you would be able to provide some feedback. Thanks.

Not had too many problems offshore or onshore starting the super puma but she doesn't like the wet, couple of times offshore shutdwown with a heavy fog and strong wind found alot of the electrical bits getting damp and causing a few problems starting. Guess not as water tight as the '61.....

I have spent 10 years shutting Pumas down offshore. A couple of tips. Before shutting down, bug your heading on the hsi then put the compass solector to MAG rather than DG or you wil have problems with the AP later. Leave it there until after starting. In strong winds put the blade socks on by putting the sock on the blade at the 8 o clock postion then getting one of the deck crew to walk the blade around until the next free blade is at 8 o clock and repeat until all the blades are secure. Had a puma offshore in winds over 90 knots shut down with no problems ( She was well lashed down !) As T4 Risen said, try and kep her dry. Good luck
