looks like g/box failure?

Correct me if I'm wrong (and I KNOW that you will) this looks like a nasty case of ground resonance.

US Army ground resonance testing. They found it.....
|
It's actually the US Army testing the new 'Aft Pylon' rapid removal procedure, (APRRP) prior to transport of the aircraft to Iraq in a C5 Galaxy. Apparently if they can't get it back on, they just call the result a CH53!

i wonder who they got to pull the throttles back to idle:8
|
I've been told that it is projectile testing....
Eg: they start the chinook up by remote control...run it at operating RPM... and fire bullets through out parts of the machine at key points, the blades etc. To see how the aircraft can handle bullet holes in various components of it's airframe and vital parts. (As bullets flying left, right and smack bang into the airframe will be it's operating environment) |
Chinnok back
Then they wonder why helicopter pilots have bad backs!

Helopat,
To read up on ground resonance, its causes, its effects and general useful information. R22 :ok: |
Bring back the old 300B model I say, Its the ultimate in on ground entertainment - provoking thoughts of wether to run and hide or risk life and limb for one hell of a show. I'm sure someone out there has had soiled undies after such a moment :E
