Re: Vietnam photo
Happiness is a cold LZ with space for 50 ships. To the 500 troops waiting just off frame, "Gentlemen, your ride is here...."
The Hueys had a frame behind the pilot's door that held a colored card defining that aircraft, and the troops were issued a similar printed card. I covered a 50 ship insertion one day, with fast movers nape-ing the perimeter, and Arty prepping the area (last round is a WP that airbursts in the center of the LZ, as the ships were on 30 second final.) Timing is everything in life... The courage, skill, precision and discipline I saw were in sharp contrast to what some think about our troops in Vietnam. I'd follow my Air Cav Troop into Hell, they were that good! http://webpages.charter.net/nlappos/...rymike1970.jpg http://www.dtroop.com |

Re: Vietnam photo
Anyone remember where the B-2 Unit was....when viewing the C-Rat Case after you turned it upside down so only the blank bottom of the cartons were visible? (Think the FAST test was important....this was life essential!)
How many ways are there to open a beer bottle without a proper opener? How many ways are there to heat canned rations without heat tabs? How many cigars in an Supplement Pack? Did anyone ever eat the peanut butter in the C-Rats? |

Nick
I covered a 50 ship insertion one day On the assumption that on all the other days, you covered a non-50 ship formation, what was your more usual size of operation ? How often did the big formations happen ? |
