EC-135 Police helicopter blown off mountain by high winds.

The helicopter landed on mountain top with personnel to repair a defective emergency phone transmitter and when trying to lift off after the repairs the pilot received indication of icing on the rotor blades.

The helicopter was left overnight and was blown off the mountaintop due to high winds. It is probably about 50 meters below the top.

The Norwegian state police is the owner of the helicopter which they received about a year ago. Repairs are expected to cost millions in NKr.

Awwww, poor Heli. I remember seeing this one in Macs' hangar last year, very nicely kitted out and the first 135 outside the UK to be fitted with the McAlpine Police Mission Pod, I think.
Should have put some big tent pegs in it! :D

Seem to remember the bods at MD telling a story at Helitech a few years ago about a corporate 902 that was left on top of a mountain in Europe somewhere while the driver went off for coffee. Came back and it was an expensive pile of broken bits down the mountain that took ages to fix - if ever? Anyone got piccys?

Happened more than once to a Lynx in Norway I seem to recall.

What kind of high winds are we talking about here ? I presume the slope and surface didn't help ?

I'm sure the Swedish Police is sad about the loss........

Norways (one and only) police helo has not fallen over.......... :eek:
(It was on the news today, delivering a EOD dog to a bomb scare situation in Trondheim)
And yes, UK MOD Lynx helos have done similar stunts in Norway.
