Bang goes the PoF theory for tail rotor roll and level flight!!!

Whirlybird 21st Dec 2005 18:43

It's OK, Whirls. Half the rotary world knew who I was anyway. So now the other half knows too. Not really a problem. :)

Cheers,

Whirly

I must be in the minority who don't know who whirly is.
Though I know you flew the 135 a short while back, but one can not buy that magazine anywhere so I had just to wait until I got given the opportunity to fly said machine.

One half did, the other didn't. Now the half that didn't do!

I don't!!!

I have no idea who she is too.

Who is the guy he's as big as a R22 :p

leemind 22nd Dec 2005 09:42

Left Seat

I'd bet my bottom dollar the right seat is a very fine gentleman by the name of Bill Lowry - Biggin Hill Helicopters.

That is their Long Ranger. Now off to Smiths to buy a copy of the Mag!

Vankem Spankfaart 22nd Dec 2005 12:42

Whirlybird,

I think you gave me my 3rd ever flying lesson (some 2 years after my 1st two lessons). Did you instruct from Redhill a few years back?

So I still have some anonymity, phew! :)

Leemind, go to the top of the class. :ok:

Not guilty! Only been instructing for a little over two years, and from Hawarden then Tatenhill.

Robbo Jock 22nd Dec 2005 21:05

You're at Tatenhill ? I may pop down and say "hi". And if I can ever scrape some dosh together, ask you to take me to the air and scrape off my rust-spots. :}

Gerhardt 23rd Dec 2005 00:39

I ordered a copy just for the pics of Whirls.

Whirlybird 23rd Dec 2005 08:34

Robbo Jock,
I'm very part time at Tatenhill at the moment, mainly because I live so far away and so can't do things at short notice. So pm me to make sure I'm there before dropping over to say hi. However, I'm moving next month and will be a lot closer...and closer to another school that's offered me part time work, and closer to the centre of the country which will make travelling easier to fly more helicopters for Todays' Pilot. So, despite having to leave my beloved Wales to do it, Whirly will hopefully soon be gainfully employed fulltime in helicopter related occupations!!!!! :ok: Yes, I know, about time too.

BTW, if I disappear from PPRuNe in early January, it'll only be because once I dismantle my PC for the move, I may never manage to put it all back together again. But fear not (or celebrate not? ) - I will be back.

Gerhardt,
I'm flattered, but I think the cover pic is the only one in which you can vaguely see me. The mag thought the helicopter was the star! However, if you really want to see little me, try the last issue (Whirly in an Apache sim) or a slightly earlier one (great pic of me flying the EC135, and also on a McAlpines poster). No, I don't get commission for them selling more out-of-date mags, honest!

Rumour has it that next month's TP will have my article on helicopter instrument flying (or not) for the PPL(H) - I hope it does as I need the money. :(

Whirly

If you need help in getting the computer operational after you move, give me a call.

I will let you try to squeeze an R22 into your new back garden to prove its possible before I do!

Whirlybird 23rd Dec 2005 15:34

muffin,

Many thanks; I may well take you up on that - helping with the PC I mean. As for getting an R22 into the back garden, it would be easy if you cut down a tree or two or six! But I like trees, so maybe I'l chat up the farmer who has the field behind instead.

bellsux 23rd Dec 2005 20:17

What I want to know is where are these lights that you have on the tail rotor??? They look like the standard boring old 206-016-201-127's normally fitted to Longies..
;) ;)

Simon853 24th Dec 2005 10:43

Being tight, I picked up the mag in WHSmiths, read the artcle, and put it down again. I feel all guilty now... I promise I'll buy a copy next time I'm out.
