Norwegian allowances
 
Does anyone out there know what it costs to look after oneself in Norway, and then live a normal daily life?
Spoken to a few oily contractor chappies who say they get NKnr 650 to 700 a day if they're in town. Seemingly an ordinary evening meal will set you back Nknr 300 to 400 if you're staying in the obligatory company hotel.
It appears that a certain North Sea helicopter company has asked for chaps to go to Norway on, it seems, half the oily contractor rates.
Let's hope it's just rumour network let lose again. I can't believe that helicopter pilots and engineers would be the worse off personnel on site on a lucrative oil contract (again !!!!).

For what it is worth:

I have heard that one helicopter operator pays the Government minimum permitted daily allowance of NoK450 (about £35 current exchange rate) daily and £8.50 per day taxable. I have heard that the other helicopter company is paying the NoK450 plus another NoK660 per day.

To eat reasonably in Norway steer clear of hotels. Good meals can cost about NoK150-200.

Its the alcohol that costs!!!

1110 Nok would make it more acceptable, and I'm glad to see that one company is willing to bid enough to pay the crews a decent daily allowance.
I have never seen an oil man on a job away from his normal base short of allowances.

I believe the standard daily rate for an unplanned night stop is unchanged at 450 NKR a day, which does not buy much (in the way of beer). Then again, 'a' company would probably argue that buying crews beer is not part of their responsibility.

I have also heard that the offshore allowance for 2 and 2 is £75 per diem plus double at weekends. Plus the conditions of a Norwegian platform. Nice work if you can get it!

Helicopter Service Norway accepting fixed wing pilots?
 
Hi!

I've heard rumours that Helicopter Service Norway are accepting fixed wing pilots which they send through conversion training after they have signed a bounding.

Is there any truth in this rumour? And how is the marked in Norway for off-shore pilots?

They are a very large power company in Norway and deal with construction of powerlines etc they have a specialism in lifting ready made towers into place.

I don't believe (although I may be wrong) Statnett own any helicopters nor do they employ pilots. They charter helicopters from the likes of Helikopter Service or other local operators.

Accident reports from the AAIB-N (Norway)
 
OK, here is my first attempt at fulfilling my "duties"

This is an older one but a very bad accident indeed, which was referred to in a older thread, but not specifically. The accident involved a SuperPuma L1 heading for the Norne rig outside Broennoeysund, in mid-norway. It occured on the 8th of september, 1997.

Sad as it was, I was actually involved in the search for the machine (I was in the navy at the time), and unfortunately there was nothing we could do, other than get seasick...

well here it is, and I apologize if it has been posted before (I did a search, but could not come up with it)

In numerical terms, more than 25% of the Norwegian population travel in helicopters each year.

Norwegians are nice to work with, use the best equipment and pay well.

With the increase in the price of crude, there is bound to be an increase in flying in the next decade.
