Burman Aviation Group sold

Press Release

The Burman Aviation Group, "one of the leading helicopter businesses in the UK" with bases at Cranfield and other locations around the country, has been sold.
After six years in the ownership of the Catto family the business has been bought by Thomas Ivings, who is to become chief executive.

The new owner is a chartered certified accountant with a practice near Oxford. He has been involved with Burman for the past four years.

The company now has big expansion plans, including a rapid expansion of its Twin Squirrel maintenance and operations (in addition to its existing Robinson and JetRanger business).
The expansion plan includes opening further schools and engineering line bases at strategic locations around the country, and increasing the range of aircraft operated.
Didn't know they were "one of the leading helicopter businesses in the UK"

Heliport must have got the natty little brochure too
Always thought that Burmans had a potential that was not realised as a Charter operator, Maintenance organisation and Training School.
May be that the new bosses will live up to the expectations.
As for expansion plans don't they follow what every heli operator plans to do with their business. nothing ground breaking there then. :p :D :p

From a variety of places.
Sometimes, like this one, the info comes from a Press Release.
Also, like everyone else, I also pick up rumours/gossip in the industry. I then check them out on the websites of regional/local newspapers. eg A rumour about South Yorkshire Police appealing for money to buy a new helicopter, was confirmed on the Yorkshire Post website.

I am keen to get helicopter pilots from as many countries as possible contributing to Rotorheads, so I sometimes search for stories about helicopters on the websites of foreign newspapers.
Many of the sites have a 'search' function - Enter 'helicopter', click and see what happens!

eg The story about Sikorsky helping the WTC rescue operation came from (I think) the New York Times website. I assumed helicopters would be helping in some way or other and did a search.

Often, the news items posted on Rotorheads don't get any replies because there's nothing useful to add, but I'm told that lots of people find the stories interesting and even useful some times!

Try a search when you've got a few minutes to spare.
All TV stations and large newspapers have websites. If you see something which may interest other Rotorheads - post it as a news item!

Burman aviation has changed hands again and is now Patriot Aviation. Owned by Peter Rigby and with Mike Creed formerly of Sloanes as MD.
