Mi-2 helicopter falls down in Lake Baikal, 2 pilots killed

Rescuers found it on the bottom of the lake, at the depth of 50 meters

A state of emergency occurred in the Irkutsk region of Russia's Siberia. A Mi-2 helicopter went off radar screens yesterday's morning. The regional department of Russia's EMERCOM received the information about the crashed helicopter from employees of the Baikal National Park at about 5:00 p.m. local time. An inspector of the park saw the aircraft falling above Lake Baikal: the man headed for the supposed crash site, but found only a blade of the chopper's propeller on the lakeside.

A boat of the Baikal rescue squad started searching for the crashed chopper the same day, but the search yielded no results because of the darkness: it took the boat several hours to reach the site of the air crash.

It has been recently reported that the Mi-2 helicopter fell down in Lake Baikal indeed: the rescuers found it on the bottom of the lake, at the depth of 50 meters. Two members of the crew were killed in the accident; their bodies were found in the cockpit of the crashed helicopter.

For the time being, specialists do not know the reason of the air crash: the pilot of the helicopter was a highly qualified specialist with many years of flight experience.
