To think we flew around Bragg at night doing very much the same thing but using only the MK 1 eyeballs. Now those were the days when helicopter flying was really sporting!

Although mind you....in air refuelling at night in cloud must be a rare thrill too.

Veghel is a DZ on the Fort Bragg reservation named for one of the parachute drops made during Operation Market-Garden.

That's almost as bad as the time the Air Force gave the green light to a Battallion over Fayettenam mall (that's Fayetteville, NC - right outside Ft. Bragg and waayyyy far from any drop zone). Limited visibility, so the Jump Masters foolishly started to exit troopers without seeing the marker. I wonder what the shoppers were thinking when 1000 parachutes started to fill the sky over the parking lot in the middle of the night! Not to mention camaflagued paratroopers running around with heavy machine guns, shoulder fired missles, and 60 mm motor-gun tubes!

I don't think it was all that dark, if the ATC is saying

I agree with autosync, I think the video is just the recorded image off the IR camera.

From a slightly different perspective, I find it interesting that the US military world-wide averages more helicopter incidents/accidents per year than the total number of Australia's military helicopters. :eek:

Interesting... I wonder if Australia has a better safety program or if it just a matter of numbers and environment/conditions. What's the denominator data in total flying aircraft compared to other countries?
