Hello,

Im currently a fixed wing trainee, but it is my intention to do a PPL(H) as well after i finnish my fixed wing training, i was just wondering if anyone is aware of any websites that provide any reference material to helicopter flying in PDF or Doc formats so that i can start doing some reading. If someone can point me in the write direction i will be very greatful, now im off to read ( try ) all these posts in Rotorheads ( the relevant ones ) .

Many Thanks

What sort of reference material?

If you are training to be a fixed-wing pilot, is this PPL or CPL. Either way, it hardly matter since much study material is common.

At PPL level the Air Law exam has a helicopter slant but the information is still all in Trevor Thom. You need Principles of Flight book (Wagtendonk is best IMHO). ...er... that's it!

Are you after stuff that is free on the internet? Can't think of much specific to helicopters which is useful for training that you wouldn't already have as a plank pilot.

There are very few helicopters books that I don't have so if you want to know any further recommendations, please ask.

Cheers

Working on these at the moment, for the web.

Perhaps more aimed at instructors than students, but they may be of use.

I've asked a couple of guys who understand P of F to have a look and comment before i let them out for general release.

Will post a link back here when complete.

Hello,

Anything will do doesnt matter if it is at PPL, CPL or Flight instructors level. Reading = Increase knowledge ( specially the differences with rotary and fixed wing flying, general handling )and i want to start reading once in awhile, even though i wont start the PPL(H) until im done with the fixed wing.

Thanks for the book recommendation Whirlygig.

Paco is indeed one of those pre-release reviewers, when he can spare the time.

I understand he is quite busy at the moment !

Just wait till you get to the car chase!!

Paco,

What car chase? I've got the proper bound version so I can take it to bed with me and there weren't no car chase. Is this a special chapter in the downloadable PDF version. If so, that's not fair! I think you ought to publish that bit here for everyone who has the paperback and won't have read it.

Cheers

Ah, wrong book - the car chase is in the novel.... Actually, that will take a year or so of waiting for customers to arrive to get written, so you will pleased to know it looks like I'm publishing Dennis Kenyon's meantime - we'll announce it when it's ready!
