Just to re-affirm I am all for advances and such, but there are a few assumptions that have been made that in my experience are no go-er’s.

Winching over water at night…. Your second sentence says it all, four machines… not all machines, does the deployment machine not have it or is it Tindal? I can not answer.

What happens when its blowing its nuts off, pissin’ cats and dogs and Auto Hover clapps out as you get over target? Scrubb?

What if the target is not stationary, say… out of a conning tower? Black sub black sea, remember no auto?? Its happened.

Actually Hog, all the RAAF SAR S76's are now autohover. What happens in the unlikely event that the system fails? Well that depends on the situation doesn't it; but if some poor bastard is swimming you go around and try again. What happens if your target is not stationary? Well, Hog, they rarely are. The system will handle a yacht at night in a storm, I know because I've done it. I've also used it some pretty nasty weather and it performed exceptionally well. My experience of is based on hundreds of hours of night over water in the S76 autohover and I'd be happy to go out in the thing in just about any conditions.

ALL the dedicated SAR base acft have Auto-Hover including Tindal including the deploymetn acft out of WLM, the only one that does not is the deploymetn acft out of PEA. The reason, when on deployment the acft (PC-9, Hawk) do not fly over water at night only by day.

Hog, one of the good things about the auto-hover is that it operates off any coloured Sub, and in any coloured Sea, it also operates along side a moving target. However, as you mentioned 'No auto-hover' then unless a visual winch can be achieved you would 'go home' remember no other acft is going come and pick you up... unless it's fitted with auto-hover!

Just to clarify, this system is contracted to search for and rescue Pilots that have ejected from their aircraft over water at night, period! the fact that it can do it over land by day/night and day over water is a bonus :D

1. Not too many jet jockies have parachuted onto a submarine conning tower at night.
2. The auto hover doesn't have to hover, a speed can be put in to keep pace with the target.

I admit that I have no knowledge re your accusations, but can say that, from the myopic view of an insider, CHC is very professional and dilligent in all it does. You are welcome to your opinion. I have no inside knowledge of CHC.

I simply listed some of the things that we are all not very good at in GA.

This is a rumour network and we are just pilots with to much time on our hands. Sorry CHC, but you are a big target.

What I am interested in is how the two Sidney based NGOs are going to work together with out taking each others throats out.

But nobody else seems to give a toss.
