Single engined PT landing sites

This is sort of a followon from the Monkey Island question, and is UK PT specific.

Does anyone know of the specific bit of legislation or documentation (other than the ANO) which details why a site such as Monkey Island Hotel is unusable by single engined helicopters for public transport operations ?

I know it's because the river surrounds the island, and there's only really one way in and one way out, i.e. E/W or W/E depending on the wind, and PT operations demand that you be able to land on the surface following an engine failure. But documentation would be really useful.

JAR OPS 3 Subparts K & L

This area of JAR OPS governs equipment needed for your helicopter on PT flights.

Operators must keep a document on file to prove how there aircraft meets certain requirements of Subparts K & L.

If you look through OPS3 Subparts K & L you will see a section referring to flights over water and emphasis on Performance Gp3.

JAR OPS 3 states that you must be able to alight safely in the event of an engine failure.

We have a site here in Yorkshire known as Waterton Park, a hotel on an island and so I had a particular interest in finding what equipment was required for Performance Gp3. Reading JAR OPS 3 it appears you need floats and life jackets. The exact equipment standards required are listed in the Appendix.

Hope this helps. The glorious laborious world of rules and regulations! If you need any further assistanc then PM or email me.

Regards, JB

A hotel on an island, surrounded by water - whatever next !

Thanks for the pointers - confirms my suspicions, and I'm trying to line up either a cricket field or a taxi to White Waltham for the lucky couple.
