Accident Rates in Offshore work
 

It seems that the numbers of accidents in the GOM is higher this year than previously observed.
Has anyone any statistics?
If so, are they adjusted for flight hours per year?
Finally, any serious theories for the increase?

It is usually fairly straight forward to get data about the accidents - what is frequently the problem is the flying hours. The UK offshore sector has such data; I am not sure about the GOM.

Gulf of Mexico.

That's where I'm headed if my job doesn't survive the handoff to the new vendor. And with every helicopter that gets wet when it shouldn't, I start thinking more about it.

What's the problem? Is the weather much worse than ever? Is it that PHI and AirLog are hiring guys who's whole experience is 1,000 hours around-the-patch in an R22? Are the pilots or the mechanics sleep-deprived? Are people caving to unreasonable demands?
