Bristow out of Australia?

The scuttle-but is that Bristow Australia have lost their last contract and have been served 90 day notice by the client.

Don't understand that pilots can take pleasure out of others losing their job or am I reading this wrong?

Not sure, but I think it’s a reference to the management that dragged Bristow down.

You may find that some of those that are left, are held in some part responsible for the loss of some 130 other jobs over the last few years. Hence the less than sympathetic tone.

Terrible shame for what was the best company in Oz by any measure.

The portend for other “top heavy”, poorly managed companies, who seem to have lost sight, of “Aviation”?

Agreed. It was one of the best companies for pilots, Perth admin staff, and engineers. All of the tours were exciting by one way or another!

The background management needed to get out and see the real situation deteriorating in the last few years. They thought they would win contracts by merely sending emails. It's a shame they didn't try harder.

If true that they're out of Oz, then it's terrible news for the few remaining staff. I think it's only in VIC too.

Five years ago, had someone said that Bristow Australia would be out of the offshore helicopter business, one would have thought you were nuts! However, the slow decline started quite a few years ago and it was an obvious start to the downhill slide that commenced in earnest with the loss of the Chevron contract on Barrow Island that had previously been held for a very long time. Sadly, the slide never abated.

At the end of the day, everyone has their theories as to why the company slowly became irrelevant in the local oil and gas industry. Regardless, it is a sad outcome for many front line staff (pilots, engineers, ramp and ops staff etc). There is no one celebrating the apparent 'local' loss of a once mighty, formidable and envied company. Some will be hopeful that a certain unfortunate individual may finally be shown the door after inflicting so much carnage to all and sundry over a protracted period of time. People can but live in hope...

The Fair Work Commission staff can also finally take some holidays now after being inundated for so long over the last few years. There may also be some head office staff thinking how profitable the company will be now that all those 'greedy, highly paid pilots and engineers' are gone. Definitely a progressive, contemporary mantra to degrade professionals in relation to their earnings.

Perhaps now, the new head office abroad may finally take a good, long and hard look at the staff in position of authority and make the necessary changes required if there is to be any return to the market in Australia. The next question is how long Air North remains owned by Bristow?

I think the reality is that BRS et al who are exiting markets all over the place are leaving because they cannot make sufficient money in them to justify trying to carry on. While some offshore players are still acting irrationally and pricing low (see recent Brazil reverse auction for some great examples), those that have the option to lose less money by shutting down will, and should, do so. Run the management down as much as you like but there is a story behind this and very few people get into the management jobs they have wanting to be terrible.

And lose money like it does on every contract it has taken from Bristow over the last few years.

I don’t work there, nor do I have access to their books, but they seem to be the preferred operator for my Aussie colleagues to go to.

...and others. It has been a race to the bottom for the past 10 years.
BTW, I thought Babcock were getting out of the offshore market after stomping it into the dirt?
