Helicopter down in Kosciuszko National Park Australia

Helicopter crash Kosciuszko National Park

https://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/ne...25c897694942f2

THE pilot of a helicopter that crashed in a remote area of Kosciuszko National Park has been flown to Canberra Hospital after he was winched out of difficult terrain late Tuesday afternoon.

The pilot, a man in his 50s, suffered head and spinal injuries and is believed to have been returning from Sydney where it had been helping fight fires.

The chopper reportedly came down near Cabramurra and initial reports suggest it was on fire.

The UH-1H helicopter’s registration is linked to O’Driscoll Aviation, according to the Civil Aviation Safety Authority and is used for waterbombing operations.

A Rural Fire Service spokesman confirmed the helicopter had been involved in fighting a huge bushfire in Sydney’s southwest over the weekend.

A doctor and paramedic were on the scene to stabilise the man.

VH-HUE, Helitak 271: a long term sight on many a fireground. Best wishes to Phil for a speedy recovery.

Is it usual for Hueys to be flown single pilot?

Quite usual. It's probably more unusual for them to be flown dual pilot!

I thought helos were flown from the RHS, in the photo the pilot is in the LHS. When single pilot can you fly from either depending on the tasking?

Vertical reference (including fire ops) is better controlled from the left seat. Most helitaks are set up for this from the Huey family up to the Crane, mediums up to heavies. Stand fast the BK and others which don’t have a LHS approval.
