AAR S61 Pilots, Cyprus

I just noticed an AAR job listing for pilots and instructors for S61 in Cyprus

Does anybody have any feedback on what that might be about, replacement for 84 Sqn 212s, maybe? (Sorry, ex RAF, but living in the Colonies too long to truly keep in touch with events)

Probably not, to answer my own question about 84 Sqn above. The position requires an FAA license and US security clearance.

Still looking for any ideas as to what the job might be, though. It seems to just be at the fishing for expressions of interest stage.

I'd suggest it will have something to do with Cyprus' proximity to Beirut, but you didn't hear it from me.

Sounds like standard Americans turning up anywhere they like in the world and thinking FAA rules are fine, just like Phi did with N-reg 412's in cyprus until they were run out of it. That said Malta allowed Qatari operator and pilots without EASA AOC or licences operate there last year and nobody seemed to care.....

Hedski, Gulf are still in Malta flying on home Qt reg. They got TCO from EASA 6 days ago but were flying under a wet lease until it came through. It does beg the question what the point of saying no is if they go ahead and allow basically anyone to fly though. Isn't EASA supposed to be partly about protecting EU industry....

FWIW, that is a slightly different format to the ad that I saw.

The minimum requirements are EASA ATPL(H) or CPL/IR(H), 1000hrs in helicopters and right to work in U.K./English/driving licence. Everything else (i.e. 135/145 TR, HEMS experience & NVG time) is 'candidates would ideally have'.
