Will be interesting to find out how much 'wind' noise is generated by the angular windscreen/door frame - 'looks' noisey to me but I have not designed many helicopters recently.
Will be ironic if 'flyby' noise is reduced but crew suffers.......
However, looking forward to seeing it in operation - let's hope they haven't forgot to include 'de-ice/anti-ice' as in the 175 ;-)

Luggage locker hinges in the wrong place like an AW139.

Keeps the aftermarket guys in business I suppose.

H160

I attended Heli Expo last week in Las Vegas so had the pleasure of seeing the H160 P2 on its North American Tour inside the on static as well as departing. So here are my photos below, cheers

Is it impossible to design and construct an attractive helicopter these days?

I like the bling wing concept, but I wonder if this assymetrical 7 blade contraption will work?😆😆😆

In ships we have abandoned the adagio “looks right, sails right” years ago when the container shipping got the still lastig super boost.

This H160 is not too bad.
Wait until DHL and UPS would start delivering boxes with drones.
(Or when the coroner would start airlifting coffins under the motto
“closer to your destination”)

Cheers SLB

The blades are the 'Blue Edge' design. It shifts the center of pressure on the blade, and the end result is that it's a lot quieter than a standard blade design.

The horizontal stab mount looks like quite the monstrosity.

Airbus had an interesting 'sound comparator' at the Expo. You stood on a square and a vertically attenuated speaker from above demonstrated the sound of a normal helicopter in flight.
(The Airbus test pilot said it was a dauphine, didn't sound like a dauphine to me, but any way)
Then an adjacent sound square with the H160 in flight. If what I heard is a true comparison, its remarkably quiet.
Very impressive machine. Watch out Leonardo, their coming.

The horizontal stab did look very complicated and over engineered.

I’m not sure if you’re comparing an apple to the correct apple. The H160 seems to be closer in size to the AW169. How does it compare to that?

it is a further lesson learned from the 175, which did a very bad job in lesson learned from the N3.

"Airbus Helicopters has today ended months of speculation with the official unveiling today at Heli-Expo in Orlando of its new H160 medium-class twin-engined rotorcraft which it has repositioned in order to be what chief executive Guillaume Faury describes as “the AW139 killer”.

rekn, baggage bay for the 139 is 300kg. Used to be standard 200kg with option of heavy floor for 300kg.

Pretty sure 300kg is standard now and without Aux Tank, you can convert that space to baggage as well for a total of 400kg.

Cruise speed is wrong too. You can cruise as fast as you like in a 139, but without an MVA you won't like the ride above 150. The 1/rev is so low that you feel the 5/rev coming through and it feels horrible. Like driving on cobblestones. Mast Vibration Absorber takes care of it nicely, but at a cost both in $$ and weight (35kg).

At 6400kg, 100% Tq, flying at Vne, it should CLIMB at 500ft/minute. So high speed cruising is no issue for the 139.

145 is just the comfort cruise and will typically be obtained with about 70% Tq.

Just to add, I don't think that MTOW for the 160 is where they will leave it. Expect that to jump by a good 300kg at some point in the future. 139 started at 6400, then 6800, now 7000 and has been tested beyond that.

The empty weight of the AW169 is 3300kg
max pax is 8 (basic approved configuration, 10 pax configuration available)
Max TO weight 4600 kg or 4800 in certain configurations (I think the target is 5000)
Fuel 880 kg (usable)
Rotor 12.12 m
Baggage 250 kg
Cruise 135 kt
Range 440 nm

To me it seems that the H160 sits right in between 169 and 139 in term of weight.

In term of power I have heard from a trustable source that H160 have less power available than the AW169

That's the same as the later A109s, unless you include the recently introduced 25 hour inspection of the horizontal stabiliser (after the outer third of one collapsed and was hanging off, just in front of the tail rotor).
