Helicopter winch rescue: Grenoble 29th June 2014

The Connexion

THIRTY-SEVEN people were stuck for more than three hours in a cable car high above the Isère capital Grenoble yesterday evening.

They eventually had to be rescued by helicopter, as this video from France 3 shows.

High winds caused that one of the cables slipped out of the drive mechanism, forcing operators to immediately stop the cars.

Before it could be fixed, however, people stuck in the cable cars had to be rescued.

No injuries were reported.

France 3 reports that this was the first such incident since 1976, the year the cars were commissioned. - See more at: Dramatic helicopter rescue of 37 people trapped high above Grenoble in cable car - The Connexion
