Gordy, that's an oft discussed topic!

I'm not sure I'd be enthused to find a drone on the fireline?

Yes it is....and clearly there are ways to cheat the system all over the world.

Kewl video you posted....took me a while to comprehend is was from a drone until I saw the shadow.... (even though you told me..).

I am biased, but I am clearly fascinated by fire...as are some others on Pprune. Obviously I have offered our aircraft to the fire effort in Australia right now...We are sitting doing nothing.

To all those afflicted... I feel for you, hopefully you have "defensible space"... to all the pilots out there.... Don't f*ck up, and go home to your loved ones at the end of the season.....

Wow! Haven't heard from you for ages, E86!

But yes, R.Ockape who lives overseas is commenting on our new sources?? Besmirching the famous Channel 9 that you used to fly for, no wonder you emerged from retirement to have a bite.

A Certain Company was rorting the system by their pilots leaving the engines running while they sat under a tree having lunch or a nap - and billing the engine time to RFS
Pretty sure that was policy throughout the whole organisation and all the customers were aware of it.

Then again in those days nobody used to ask "how much" when there was a fire burning and the aircraft were never on any "standing charge" or contract. It evened it out probably to what other operators were charging.

Go ask Erickson how much an S-64 is per hour "ad hoc".

At least you got experienced crews and well equipped aircraft with comms and support in the field thrown in that could actually lift something.

I seem to remember on that fire spending half my time trying to find aircraft from other operators that were either lost (3), or run out of fuel (2), or hit something (2)!

Don't get me started on what a complete and utter waste of time the military was! Sounds like they may have a little issue with the current fires.

E86,

I would have to agree sir.

The ABC in Australia is an absolute disgrace.

Like the Sydney Morning Herald...it is a left wing journal publishing uneducated crap.

ABC = Always Broadcasting Communism

SMH = Socialist Morning Herald.

Arrrj

PS - how dumb of the SMH recently attacking the "Sydney Floating Helipad"...when there is already one in the harbour. A joke, and not a good one at that.

PPS - sorry...not on topic...but required comment !

Australian press

Aaarj

I suppose we could fall back on the totally fair and unbiased Murdoch press after their fair coverage of the recent elections in AUS??? The press where it is more important to tell us about Lindsay Lohan's broken finger nail than to actually discuss meaningful issues.

Let's get back on the topic.
