MJB : Battersea serves one small part of London. It would hardly be your "go to" destination if you were more than a mile from it - given the safe alt we have available for an auto (worst case scenario).

We've already had instances of people putting down elsewhere in London - there is no rule that prevents you from being safe.

In any case, even Heathrow accepts precautionary landings with no charge. They ask you to use a heli aiming point, then a vehicle escorts your air taxi to a place of safety. Spent a very nice 15 mins in the cargo area with a precautionary check a few years ago. No charges.

I'm sure Battersea would do the same.

Such is the disconnect between Battersea owners and aviators that they are blind to the risk that they will seen as profiting from the recent accident by apparently "sponsoring" a saftey evening on city heliport operations by charging £330 per ticket!

This will serve to reinforce the mindset for those on a budget that Battersea charge at every opportunity and so should be avoided for a precautionary landing.

Battersea is one of the few places that you can land in London.

All the people that work there do a fine job.

If you can do a better job than them, set your own heliport in London and see how much it costs.

True

A matter for conjecture

You can't - there is in effect a monopoly. And therein lies the rub

You draw attention to high running costs and exclusivity which reinforces the view, I believe held by many, that it is regarded as nogo zone for pilots on a budget.

Apparently they don't mind being seen as aloof by not communicating their policy regarding pricing for precautionary landings... perhaps they are too busy sampling the menu for the £330 per ticket safety conference
