Silverstone Photos

Hi All,

Do we have any photos to post of this years helicopter movements at Silversone?

Like previous years I thought I would get a thread going for you's to post your photos of the helicopters at Silverstone/Turweston this year.

Hope to see some great photos like we have done previously.

Here are a few of mine from Turweston on Sunday:

Turweston 5 7 2015 - AirTeamImages.com

Numbers were seriously down there on previous years with the airfield operator advising that they were expecting an additional 40 helicopters over and above the circa 50 which they had but that these had gone to a private site in Bicester swayed by the offer of free steak dinners for the crews apparently.

Isn't it a shame that what used to be the busiest HLS in the world now looks like a local fly in .... Down by , as a guess , over 75% from what it was 10 years ago . I wonder who we should blame for such a total disaster which is just another blow to the UK helicopter world . I predict less than 20 helicopters will fly in to the 2020 GP .

A real shame indeed. Always look forward to the GP flights but this year was the quietist ever. Don't really know why but the clear area wasn't available to use this year which meant it was a non starter for the singles. The singles account for the bulk of the traffic normally as they do a lot of the shuttle flights.
Pilots can't park up any more ant Silverstone which was another great thing about the day because you could wander off and soak up the F1 atmosphere while your PAX enjoyed their day. I always took my camera kit with me and got some amazing shots from the heliport sidelines. Alas that will not happen again :0(.
I am amazed thats no-one has done a deal with the farmer to rent the field for helicopter parking?

I think its going to get worse because the costs are the same and that cost gets spread between the users. Less users = more expensive until it becomes only the super rich that can afford to fly in.

Story has it the farmer of the field next to the heliport built one of the grandstands recently and he hasn't been paid for it because he was asked to alter the design of the grandstand by the bill payer and now it leaks. They ar upset the grandstand leaks and he is upset because they changed the design which he knew could leak and he isn't paid....

Well that is what I was told, when I dropped in for a butchers on the Friday...

Just for the record ATC and HeliAir were super on that day, couldn't have asked for more help.
