Magnus Bentley & Les Moss: RIP
Engineer Les Moss.
Not sure if this is the right place to post this but..
I'm sure some/most of you will have come across Les at some stage so sadly I have to tell you that he passed away ten days ago, the big C evidently. I'm afraid that is all I know.
What Les didn't know about the S61.. well!

Magnus Bentley
Sadly Magnus passed away after a short illness on wednesday night.
Sure lots of people on this site remember how he helped all us pilots in Aberdeen and Sumburgh over the years.

Dear Magnus. He was an institution. Many a boy pilot was helped by Magnus, he did what ops should do. He knew the strengths and weaknesses of every pilot and matched them appropriataly. He made sure the job was done and the correct people learned the correct lessons. We were not just numbers to him. The industry has changed. I miss him.
I can't believe it. Magnus had the greatest belly laugh and humour. I will never forget his innovative approach to making some of the more tardy pilots take off on time when he did leave relief at North Denes in the early 90s.
"Okey Doke" mate, RIP old fella, you were one of the best ops guys ever. The world needed more like you Magney.

Magnus Bentley
Very sad indeed to hear of Magnus's passing.
He was a true legend in Bristow's Aberdeen and the Shetland Islands. He was always willing to help whenever he could, with a great sense of humour.
A good friend, he will be greatly missed.

The one and only Magnus
Very sad to hear that Magnus has passed on.
He was the best of the best, a true legend. He will never be equalled.
I will fondly remember all the chats we had after I had finished the day's flying, putting the world to rights, especially BHL!
I'll miss you, old friend.

What desperatly sad news and a very depressing way to start the day 
Oh dear...
I worked in ops with Magnus in the Shetlands way back in 1978-80 before he moved to Aberdeen and I went off to fly choppers...
Had many a laugh (and pints) with magnus and Ian Hooker, Reuben, Steph etc from that era
Very, very sad, if anyone can PM with more news, I'd appreciate it,

What a shock to hear the news last week about Magnus he was such a nice man always smiling, always happy to chat to you. he will be sadly missed.
His funeral service was today here in Shetland a really sad day

What sad, sad, news. I had the great pleasure of working and being friends with both Les Moss and Magnus Bentley during the early days of my career in Sumburgh.
I was on the same shift as Les and he was always an entertaining and humourous, if sometimes blunt individual. He was a hard worker with an extraordinary knowledge and interest in anything mechanical. I can remember many entertaining evenings at the Sumburgh Social Club, Sumburgh Hotel, Scatness and Hardbrakes with him and various other reprobates. I learned very early on not to pace myself with him at a party!
Very sad news indeed, and my symapthy goes to his family. Although I only remember the kids as babies - I do recall the epic party in the Social Club to celebrate the birth of his first born - amazing that I (or anyone else) might have any recollection of that night!
I have known Magnus Bentley all my life; ever since I was a small child - he lived just up the road at Hestingott. Magnus was a few years older than me, and was one of the guys involved in all the farming activities that occupied us all at that time. I was always envious that he got to drive the tractors, because he was older than us. He was involved in a lot of operations around the construction and expansion of the Sumburgh Airport, before he came to Bristows running the pax handling operations at the old terminal, then becoming an Ops Manager. Intelligent, organized, hardworking and with a fabulous sense of humour, Magnus was one of those people who could get anything done - and always with that great can-do attitude.
He thrived in his work, and sometimes it seemed to be difficult to separate his life from his work. He garnered great respect and co-operation from everyone who worked with him and I think it was because he genuinely enjoyed his work and the people he came in contact with. I last saw Magnus a couple of years ago in Aberdeen and he was going to come out for a beer on the way out from work, but had to cancel due to some dilemma that required resolution. It was a great privilege to have known him and I will always have fond memories of the old days at Sumburgh, and the people that made it such a great experience and great place. Sympathies to all the family.

Just picked up this sad news about Magnus. I can only echo all that has been said previously.
I worked mainly in the outstations of Bristows, offshore on the B212, Unst and Sumburgh, but when I converted onto the Tiger, I really came to appreciate Magnus as a great ops guy.
RIP and God Bless Magnus. My sincere condolences to all family and friends and everyone at Bristows on this sad loss of a great guy.

Very sad news about Magnus.
Having been with BHL for 40 years, I knew Magnus from the very early days. He was an Ops Co-ordinator extraordinaire. He knew how to handle us pilots and extract the best out of operational matters.
Never told you your job, just put you on the right track.
