Royal Oman Police.

I know there are a lot of you old farts out there who have been through the ROP over the last 30 years and in doing so have been blessed to fly the "jebels" in the 214st. This to let you all know that she will fly her last operational flight tomorrow . The era of the plastic pig is here, and the old queen is retiring... she will be sadly missed indeed. Yesterday she spent the day scuttling from 1500' to 8000' with underslung loads like a goodun and no complaints!! 139 my arse

214 St

What memories this brings back!

Medevacs using the Jebel VOR's gnarled hand pointing you in the right direction; until he suddenly pointed straight down - "You want me to land where?" Then seeing a tiny village tucked down in an almost inaccessible valley, getting down there was always fun! Watching the villagers carry the sick person across the rocks and load them into the aircraft. The look of gratitude on their faces. Then back to the hospital in Muscat and the wait while the crewman and doctor battled to retrieve our stretcher.

Long convoys with HM and the Royal Flight, living under canvas. At least the 214ST blades meant you always had somewhere in the shade to sit!

I always thought the machine was too big to be on two blades; great for long straight line transits from Muscat to Salalah but not so good in tight spots - give me a 205 any day!

On that occasion about 2000lbs with about an hours fuel.. but at lower Alt up to 4000lbs is possible with max payload (with our fit) at sea-level 4500lbs with an hours fuel or 17 pax with 2.3 endurance
