Helo pay North Sea

Greeting all.
I am trying to find some current information.
What is the starting wage in GB Pounds, (or Euro's).
For a co-pilot in the North Sea.
Also starting wage for a Captain?
If anyone can offer this info would be great.

I heard that CHC pays 40000 Pounds starting salary for co-pilots, senior capatain's can make 80000 Pounds.

Even if the guy who told me that flys for CHC, i can't tell you if these numbers are right. Might be complete bulls****t

From what I've heard, RavenII's figures are about right although much will depend on experience and qualification. However, although the salaries may seem good, one also has to factor in the higher cost of living in the UK.

The figures have been added to numerous threads - Raven's figures are a bit high for co-pilot and a bit low for senior captain!!

At the moment there are no direct entry Captain positions so starting salary as a co-pilot depends on experience and how much the company wants you.

At the moment an IR seems to be essential for consideration but that could change tomorrow or next month or never!!

Cost of Living Rise

A Donar Kebab in Aberdeen City Centre is now upwards of £3.80 and a round of Stella can leave little change from 20 quid

co-pilot starting salary in chc north sea is approx £35k with minimum hours and an IR. Goes up with hours and years in job. Senior capts could be on more than £80k .

Confirming helimutts and 332mistress statement:

Those figures are about right, also for the eastern regions of the North Sea.


..............so why should you accept less than half of that if you accept work in all those other places where you usually do not get to go home in the evening after work?

One answer - BALPA - join and get the advantage of strength in numbers plus some bottle - CHC Pilots' have always been the ones to lead while the red crews meekly follow. Management may feel they earn the company the money but one whiff of militancy and the white flag comes out!!

It is the boys and girls who fly the line, supported by engineers, traffic and dispatch who earn the money

Just asking?

The reason for the original post was that, I am right now in the Middle east, and they have offered my permanent employment, just trying to get a ballpark figure to bargain with.
Experience, 10 years flying, ATP, 5500 hours, 2000 twin time.
Right now paid $7000. (Per Month)
Anyone got any suggestions

Don't expect to be able to do much bargaining! The figure you quote is a UK N. Sea co-pilot salary. Year 1 Captain is nearer 10,500-11,000 USD pm (pre-tax).

Ah yes, but what's the average price of a litre of petrol (UK - £1.05)? What's the average price of a two-bedroomed house (UK - about £180,000). What's the average interest rates and taxation rates? Comparing gross salaries between different countries is a non-starter unless you can back it up with cost of living figures, retail price indices and taxation rates.

I agree, but no international employer of expat pilots is going to give a fig about base country cost of living: are you suggesting richbe's employer should pay the Brits more than the Americans but less than the Norwegians? What about the Malaysians and Indonesians?

Ok - it's all in the interpretation I guess! Bottom line is that an individual working for a Middle East offshore operator is unlikely to get any leverage in pay negotiations by quoting a North Sea salary.
