Thanks for the info but I was done asking questions here over a week ago. I'm sure others listening but not posting will appreciate your post also. If they want more info they can ask questions now.

That's a very disappointing outlook to take, since those wanting information become tied to your private comms and no one gains in the long run.

Rotorheads benefits from the sharing of information publicly, and we generally have a reasonably good moderation to weed out unwanted posts. Indeed, there are a swag of deleted posts on this thread, including some of yours, which contributed nothing of value to the discussion.

I understand that ADA is an attractive proposition to many helicopter pilots for both the flying and the money, especially with so many of their senior pilots looking at the dreaded age 65 mandatory retirement. We will all learn more if information is shared and appreciated, rather than taking Pilot135pd's attitude of private discussions

I totally agree that lots of pilots out there were getting info from the forum, in fact I got a lot if great info here and shared it with others off the forum, but where were you earlier? Instead of waving your finger at me you should have been waving it at the kids here.

Why do you think those pilots that contacted me directly were in the background and not posting anything? It became a nuisance where every time I posted, someone with nothing positive to add came and put their crappy $0.02 in. The other pilots didn't want to put up with it so they didn't post anything.

It got old putting up with those kids so it was easier to communicate directly.

We are now down to the tit-for-tat responses that you classify as 'kid's stuff', and contributes nothing to the thread or to Rotorheads. Maybe it would help to step back and look at your posting history here, and think about the source of the problem?

I wish you well if you get to ADA; the CP is a Good Guy and a very old friend. But if you arrive there with the same attitude that you have shown here, I am not at all sure that you will fit in as well as you could

And after reading your last post you still ask why we went to direct emails and PMs? Incredible.

So now I'm the source of all bad things on this thread? What a irresponsible statement coming from a moderator. No wonder some here act like they do.

All I said was that instead of singling me out and waving your finger at me maybe you should have just posted your message to everybody in general.

Yeah, Pilot135 pretty much shut down the original forum over at JH as well. He's preety good at attacking others view, but will not tolerate anyone questioning his views or opinions.

Shame really, I too was keen to learn as much as possible about how others get work in the sand pit. Shame that some people came under attack personally as well.

I am still looking forward to hearing how these new pilots to ADA get on and hearing all about the hiring process so hopefully those involved will be able to share their experiences.

I am expecting that some will have a good run getting into ADA and others will get 'chopped' even before they sign on the dotted line. I expect that ADA will be doing their background checks on those pilots selected already. With a large group of pilots to choose from, i'm sure they will be looking for pilots that have already proved that they have a good work record and also are 'low maintenance'. I also have not doubt that they are following this thread and it will not take too much effort to work out who is who here..

There are a few (actually I should say were a few, as I haven't been there for a few years) that were hired off of resumes, but the vast majority are hired from personal recomendations. ADA is large enough that they normally just put the word out that they are in need of a couple of pilots and the present employees tell their friends and the slots are filled. Thats how I got my job there, and how I got 3 of my friends jobs there as well.

If your applying off of a blind ad, good luck but don't quit your day job!

AME offer

Offered an AME position. 8 weeks on/ 4 weeks off. Pay rate $215/day. Comments? BTW, I have 28 years exp.

Take the job. Its a good place to work, the hangar is literally world class. Watch the politics and the back stabbers but hopefully those have moved on to somewhere else. Keeping yourself fed properly is the hardest thing, with a limited time to go shopping. Offshore, no problems for food and a better routine, albeit longer hours.

Depends on circumstances but the money doesn't sound that crash hot to me. Still maybe some people would pay to go there. Who knows. Its a funny old world.

Sorath .... With 28 years experience I would expect you should have an A&P with IA and plenty of supervisory experience as well ... if that is so then I would suggest the money offered is way too low ...

If you have 28 yrs exp. and no tickets then your only a 'fitter' ....

Keep in mind that you also have to get a UAE AME license and for some folk that can take some time ... the company may not want to pay you top money till they know how really useful you are going to be .....

You should also be able to negotiate 6/6 if you want it ???

Spin, yes I do have my A&P with I/A and supervisory exp. I do think this is way too low. Has anyone been able to negotiate the first offer with any luck?

Co-pilot schedule

Can any pilots give an insight to the Co-pilot schedule for ADA? As far as day to day op's go. And info on the FAA to GCAA conversion?

Generally co-pilots will work the same roster as the Captains ...


Which 'might be' 5days ON then 2 days OFF ... depending on Ops requirements of course ....


Conversion of license depends on what the 'training' department determines you require ... this usually comprises of some sort of 'handling' check an I/F ride then they will apply for a license on your behalf ... after a short period of time you then go to write the GCAA Air Law exam and if you require it the ELP (English Language Proficiency) test.

I heard from an ex ADA pilot (3 years back) that co-pilots only get 8 weeks on/ 4 weeks off rosters, not 6/6. And the first tour is 4 months. Is that roster still in use or is it all 6/6 now?
