A few pictures from a recent trip I did to Armenia. I was based out of the international airport in Yerevan. All the pictures are from around that area.
The weather started off bad, but cleared up by the end of the week.
Downtown Yerevan:
The highlight of the week: Mount Ararat in Turkey. Apparently it is rare to see it this clearly so I was lucky. No I didn't find Noah's Ark!

The trip to Armenia was indeed an eye opener. A very bleak landscape, although in spring and summer it may be a little more bearable. Some of the housing developments were beyond depressing. I was there flying a 429 for an individual and have the dubious honor of doing the first flights by a privately owned helicopter ( both day and night) in the history of the country. When the iron curtain fell the Russians literally turned out the lights and left, or so I was told. The country is still getting itself together. Nice people and food though.

Prompted by those shots from Yerevan, herewith a couple more from another town described as a "****hole" by those with a direct opinion or as an "urbanised workcamp" in more polite circles. Either way, Atyrau in western Kazakhstan doesn't have a lot to commend it besides steady work and busy tours for touring heli drivers...!
The walk to/from work across the airport isn't especially inspiring....
Communal heating pipes over the ground with damaged or non-existent insulation make a useful contribution to global warming...
...and are simply built around or stepped over as required!

The River Ural marks a geographical divide between Europe and Asia and that detail is reflected in the presence of signs either side of the Setpayeva Street bridge. It's a pretty grim sight in March...
The sunshine of summer and a little greenery is an improvement but you'd have many miles to travel before anything recognisably European appeared in front of you...

While local regulations demand VFR only, looking out the window isn't always the most helpful source of nav information...
Nonetheless, a little bit of deft button-pushing on the FMS and the offshore installation appears where and when it should do...

Seasonal variations are extreme, from temperatures as low as -30'C in January to occasional spikes of up to 50'C in the summer...
-12'C in February is bordering on "balmy"
...while 39'C in early June is seen as still only "warm"

Without wishing to be pedantic I thought that this thread was titled
'Views from the Cockpit'
Personally I do not think that pictures of helicopters at air shows fit in.
It would be better to start another thread.

Also if you look at previous posts in this thread there are numerous exterior shots of aircraft on the ground!
