The Devonshire Arms at Bolton Abbey would be a scenic and not too long flight from Manchester. It's an extremely helicopter friendly place with a concrete pad as well as plenty of grass. The food is also very good...

Another vote for the Cavendish. Excellent food in the conservatory at the back looking down the valley to Chatsworth. Very helicopter friendly.

Mallory Court near Leamington Spa, lovely service, reasonable room rate and fitted a Twin Squirrel and my R44 on the lawn, could not have been more helpful to either pilot - Thoroughly recommended.... watch the very high tree if approaching from the north.

The Fish Hotel - Great / Highly Recommend:
Did a helicopter landing and lunch at The Fish Hotel www.thefishhotel.co.uk in Worcestershire today. First time there and it’s moved to my favourites list of heli lunch sites. Stylish and relaxing with really good food & service. Very heli friendly and will definitely return.

Four Seasons Hotel Hampshire - Damn Poor / Avoid:
Before making the booking above, I called Four Seasons Hotel Hampshire and experienced quite the opposite – they’re on my BlackList. Additional to their £100 landing fee when you have lunch/dinner reservation, they additionally seek to take a £1000 deposit on your credit card regarding following their noise procedures. Seemed the oddest request in over a decade of helicopter lunches. Upon receiving this information, I cancelled my table and don’t ever plan to visit.

Four Seasons

Having flown in and out of Four Seasons I know of the £1000 deposit you mention too. Apparently the reasoning behind the strict noise procedures are due to a owner pilot who, while on approach overflew the neighbouring farm at low level a few years ago causing the farmers daughter to be thrown from her horse, paralysing her. Understandably the hotel has had to deal with very anti helicopter neighbours ever since. Still not helpful if your looking for somewhere to fly in and have lunch.

I don't understand? Tresco Heliport will look after you all, we just want you to visit our Island and enjoy. Bet these hotels don't charge car parking fees!!! Tresco Island is worth a visit. I pride our Heliport on being available to everyone, and to make it easy to come and see us. You would think other destinations would think the same!! Oh no charge with us and complimentary transport to your accommodation.

Hello S61Queenoftheskies
I'm planning a long weekend surprise for 'she who must be obeyed' and saw your post re landing fees. I have an EC120 and so would fly ourselves over. Am I able to park at the heliport for a few days?
Thanks
TTB

The Cavendish Hotel is just north of Chatsworth House and accepts helicopters.

Hi all, does anyone know of a landing site in St Ives (Cornwall)? Anything closer than the Gurnards Head?

Cavendish Hotel.

A recreation / sports field is classified by the CAA as a congested area and needs a Rule 5 permission.

There is a private heli site on the NE side of the town overlooking the River Wye. You could ask the owner.

Not strictly correct. The CAA will ask if the primary principle purpose is a sports field. So a golf course does need permission. However a field that is used as a training ground some of the time fo rugby training is not as its principle primary purpose is a field not a rugby pitch. I know it is semantics but otherwise you would not be able to land in a National Park as its primary principle purpose is for recreation !!!! Basically the only person that can tell you is a judge !!!!

Which, unfortunately is why you need to get a written permission from the CAA - to avoid having to go to court.

With private flying opened back up in the UK (solo or with family re COVID), would anyone have any suggestions on possible landing sites for a family picnic – 30 to 60 minutes flying from London?

For my first flight post re-open last weekend, I flew to a friend’s home in Surrey and landed in his garden. However, as I have a limited number of mates with big country homes, I’m, looking for alternative ideas on landing sites.

Would be open to ideas on South Coast, Isle of Wight, West Sussex, Hampshire, Cotswolds, etc. Don’t need any facilities, just a scenic open area with nice views.
