Her intended destination was the Pennyhill Park Hotel and Spa, which is not far from the school, but appalling weather conditions made the school field the best landing site, said college principal Jerry Oddie.
The school gates were locked and the pilot had to contact caretaking staff to come and let Dame Shirley out of the grounds at about 8pm.
She went to the house of a local resident who gave her a cup of tea and use of the facilities.

That would be the Hot tub I guess ....

many thanks hobie. i haad read (ceefax) that it was an emergency landing. as usual the media have got it a little wrong. and of course, i too assumed it was at night. forgetting that we are just 3 days after the solstice did not realise it would still have been daylight.

cheers
