why VRS?
Caught one...

Once he's over the rooftop, it looks like a ROD > 300fpm, < 30kts and clearly under power. The last 60-70' of his approach are very steep.

VRS?

Not possible - wasn't "invented" back in those days!

The flag in the corner of the building wrecks your headwind theory as well.

VRS - pah!

Quite right Jim. RDVT wind at 3:01 and 3:08.
ttb: VRS requires 2 factors:
1 Induced flow
and
2 Opposing flow - (condition 2 is the reason 3kts descent and 30kts forward is mentioned - 6 degrees is NOWHERE near VRS - but at less than IAS30kts pitot is unreliable and 30kts easily lost if unaware or gusts/sheer. "caught one"?)

Air Zermatt is training pilots and crew of Fishtail Air in order to set up a high altitude rescue station in the himalaya.
Very interesting to watch (at least for those of you understanding German).
