Knickers in a twist
The Owen story was in his Times column in November - where he announced his purchase. Then he got injured at the weekend - new year's holiday - slow news - journalist wanting to file copy and push off. So the Telegraph piece was complete speculation about him taking lessons - however it gets read by all other media. They are similarly lazy/bored/want to get to pub/home - so they repeat it.
Way of the world.
Of course they would be better off investigating why 6 top players (incl Rooney, Neville, Beckham) have had the same injury in less than 3 years - why boots don't offer protection to the top of the foot - and why "blade studs" arrival has triggered these injuries.
But that would be asking a journalist to do some research.....and we all wonder why they get aviation stories screwed up.

SASless
LASORS states that after 70 hours of twin time PIC, a PPL flight test can be taken on a twin. Someone please shoot me if I have interpretted this wrongly.

Important not to be too sniffy when there's a chance of some positive publicity about helicopters in the mass media.
Mike Smith of Flying TV was on BBC Radio talking about this last night and came across very well – as he should, after all the practice he's had.
The fact that Michael Owen has no intention of learning to fly the thing can be glossed over for the purpose in hand.

To take a multi engine helicopter (PPL or commercial) rating you must have
A) Passed the theoretical knowledge examinations in accordance with JAR2.470 for the CPL (H), or, hold a certificate of satisfactory completion of a pre entry approved course in accordance with appendix 1 to Jar-FCL 2.255
B) Have completed at lease 70 hours as pilot in command of helicopters in accordance with appendices 1 & 3 of 2.240
In other words complete your ppl then do 70 hours of P1 flying (would have to be on a single as you are not yet twin rated)get head in exam books and then you will be able to start on the type rating course. Oh and have a big bank balance because the insurance premiums will be high indeed.

In good old Germany you are only allowed to do primary training in an aircraft which is certified for 4 seats or less. Leaves it more or less to the old but proven pistons.

2 million?
How old will that be then? Seems a steal for a 365.
I am glad that you can take your PPL(H) in a twin, as that is the plan when the 6 numbers come up. Bit more modest though, a 355 will do fine

FCL-2 states max 4 persons a/c for PPL (H) training. Anyone know of people training on a jetranger..? Perhaps I missed the exemption annexe.

Cyclic Flare - just wondering whether Jordan's training started with "weight and balance calculations" ?? D'you reckon she'd understand that?
Flying Pencil - there was certainly someone some years back (rules prob changed since) at Fairoaks who learned on the family B206 and then later did a piston conversion (yes, from a turbine to a piston...) so she could also fly the family R22 gismo. Yes, they had both at that time..

I believe that there was a quote from him in one of the Sunday papers along the lines of: "I believe I'm supposed to be learning to fly a helicopter. That's news to me"

According to the Times... "I read somewhere yesterday that I am meant to be taking helicopter lessons, which is news to me."
