It was based in our hangar at Odiham for a while and I'm pretty sure that ThudandBlunder used to fly it.
I recall that the RAFBF was involved in a dodgy deal over it; I think major parts of the aircraft were actually on loan but it got sold.

'twas indeed in 240's hangar for all of its repair time and mostly when with IAT. And I now admit to burning out one of 240's Rovers' Clutch when towing it one day.
The parts used were all completely and honestly hunted/scrounged/donated from whomever had the type (even a Saudi Herc delivered some used MR blades direct to Odi without notice)
The only thing that was 'bought' was the TR hub because we couldn't get one anywhere!
The "dodgy deal" to which, I think, you refer was selling the frame to IAT for £1 to get it off MOD's books for civil registration.
Not sure which "Thud & Blunder" you refer to...there could be more than one?

Rigga,
Thanks for that. I have seen her about on the "airshow" circuit in the army green paint scheme and wondered the story behind the white paint on the film. Bet she was a pleasure to fly!?!
Yes the SAR paint jobs sounds horrid!
Last time I saw it was at redhill have a quick service. Even has fake bullet holes now as part of the display!
Hope to see it about more in the future!

I think there's some confusion between G-HUEY and G-UHIH.
The former, the RAFBF's Argentinian Trophy, was last known based at North Weald, in flying condition and syndicate-owned from about 2004-2007, until allegedly grounded by a whole host of ADs. Now rumoured to be flying in a West African country.
G-UHIH is based near Blackpool, genuine ex-Vietnam, in tip-top condition, and on the air-show circuit.

According to the CAA G-HUEY was still on the register in April this year - Though who knows who with?
Agreed, any recent viewings of a Huey on the Show circuit would be G-UHIH.

G-HUEY...
...I knew it a few years back - based at North Weald as previously said, and owned by a guy who used to run a JP3 and JP5 out of (I think) Area 51 there.
Knew him through a friend of a friend, and heard / saw it come in to EGTC once - stunning, simply stunning!

Spent a lot of time on G-HUEY Rob Tierney with Rigga and Thud and Blunder (Pilot) Ritchie Turner John Shaw Bob Holden 4 fun years doing the airshows, all of the parts used rebuilding this perticular UH1H came from legitimite sources just the owners where required to donate them the blades came from Oman in a fat albert and the Bundesheer donated a lot that where collected from a German army engineering officer and delivered by a Puma or Chinook enroute back to the UK from Gutersloh and huge support from Bristow. great fun and memories
Ahh, yes...
See how memories fade and get confused - Oman it was, and the nice green roof screens from Germany - Its coming back!
STVA - Check your PMs (Like the name btw)

Any Hueys in UK?
It struck me today that, out of a large variety I've seen, I've never seen a Huey.
I reckon they'd make a great workhorse amongst other uses, but are they in use anywhere?

Grobble, the Huey and the civilian version of it are still in use today, here in Canada there is plenty of them used as firefighting machines, logging, seismic and general work. I have been flying them for the last 24 years. Don't see the end of this machine yet.

G-HUEY, at RAF Odiham I think.
My grandfather (Bill Henery, seated nearest in G-HUEY) designed the Anticoustic/Nosonic headsets. They donated some for G-HUEY project in the 80s, and worked on the helmet wiring as well I believe. My father and I got talking about this over Christmas and he dug out these pictures from his archives and we scanned them in. I am also now the proud owner of a cross section of one of its original blades mounted on a wooden plinth; given to my grandfather as a token of thanks for the donation at the time.
Hope this is of interest to anyone who worked on / knew her.
Best regards
Lawrence.
Certainly at ODI Lawrence.
Tell your Dad he did a sterling job on the headsets after we'd messed the i/c about in the rebuild.
Good pics of Ady G staring up...(at what?) during a start-up by Rob T. About 1987 I think.
