Nothing new here except Nationalization, which is definitely moving forward. More Nigerian Captains and new Cadets every time I return for my rotation. I do support this, as I would in any other or my own country.
For us expats, we can only hope that our employer will find another location to keep us employed, otherwise
Besides the low oil price, Nationalization is an additional factor to keep looking for an assignment somewhere else. Not looking for a job opportunity is a big mistake at this time.
Otherwise, nothing has changed here. You got something for me?

How does Bristow survive?
Akin Oni went over budget or "misplaced" $40 million (apparently). New Cadets come to work everyday and basically just sit around all day doing nothing. This is actually not their fault as there are no spare aircraft for training or LTC´s. But remember! Each cadet sitting in the crew room sleeping or talking s#*t with their mates cost Bristow $250 thousand!! Another huge amount of money is being spent on the many trainee engineers walking around the hangars like ghosts or zombies. God bless them, some of them don´t even know what a screw driver is!! They are Bristow Nigerias´ pride and joy! And the latest success!?!?! HR Manager Femi Collins has disappeared after it was discovered that he had been underpaying the drivers hired by Bristow to another company and pocketing the difference (apparently a couple of mill USD)
Wow! after things like this I am really amazed and would really love to know how Bristow Nigeria manages to stay afloat!! Someday when I grow up I want to run a business just like this one!!

It's the cost of doing business in corrupt countries like Nigeria. Having nationals siphoning off funds is nothing new and as long it's not getting out of hand Bristow will look the other way and accept it. COBI doesn't seem to apply to nationals!
Management is more concerned with laying off experienced expats and safe a few bucks rather than tackling the big issues like misplacing 40-50 million dollars every 7-8 years! Business must be good......

Re: How does Bristow survive??
I find it interesting that someone who mentioned cadets talking "sh*t" in the crew room doesn't see the irony of coming onto an anonymous internet forum to say that the previous managing director of Bristow misplaced $40 million dollars and without pausing for breath then goes on to tell us that the HR Manager corruptly enriched himself to the tune of a couple million dollars!!
That's exactly the kind of thing I'd expect a bored cadet-pilot or trainee engineer to be talking about not a professional who should have better things to do with his or her time.
To the gentleman who says that COBI does not "seem" to apply to nationals I ask if it'd be possible to furnish us with proof that supports your statement or if like the gentleman who posted before you, you're passing on scuttlebutt as fact?
A point I'd like clarified is why the code of business integrity does not "seem" to apply to nationals? It either does or it does not, your use of "seems to" seems to me that you're a wee bit unsure about that which you speak of!
Regarding that topic though, "Nigerians" works better than "nationals" If you're going to cast us all as corrupt incompetents the least you can do is call us by our proper name.
I'd also hope that you at least understand that replacing expatriates who are paid more than their Nigerian counterparts might be seen to be an attempt at financial prudence by reducing the wage bill and not more corrupt practices??
If Bristow really is losing 40-50 million dollars every 7-8 years then surely something should be done to stem the flow??
Lastly, since we are weighing in with our opinions here, it might be a good thing to proof read your post before hitting send as you said 'safe a few bucks' which makes me think you might have been talking about the need for us to hoard our stash?
Think before you post guys!!
It's neither clever nor funny to generalize about people due to the actions of a few!

Great response @ediks. The guy must be probably upset with the way things are going against his interest in Bristow. But his hasty (or unsubstantiated?) generalizations are what i deplore.

I just think the guys posting comments like that are disgruntled fellows. I hope you guys think properly before making such comments. Saying blacks sleep at work, I myself have seen a white sleeping in the line engineer room. Sleeping on duty. I was tempted to take a picture of him but I didn't.
Please let's stop painting people black in public. It's irritating

The truth hurts
Oh wow! So I say a few rumors that sound very truthful (obviously I do not have factual evidence to proof my statements) and the Nigerians come out of the woodwork protesting "it's not fair! We're not all like that!" Ok, true, not everyone is the same but corruption, lying, laziness, etcetera are very common characteristics around here..... I could give you many instances and examples that have happened to me personally (so these are facts) but I just don't feel like writing that much now (yes I have many other things and interests in my life) and my spell check is broken.
Someone else said "he must be disgruntled". Yes I am. And everyone I know here at Bristow Nigeria (expat) is. Most, however, choose to put on a happy face and attitude and look the other way so that their existence while they are here is not miserable, which is a great psychological tactic, not easy to do at all, and something I admire. But it must also be said that all expats here in Nigeria are not equal. Everyone of us is treated differently by his superior, paid differently and given different opportunities. So that is why some say Nigerians are wonderful and others say the complete opposite.
But hey! Maybe all this is just in my imagination. Maybe this place will prosper some day. Or will it still be the same sh*thole in 50 years time? Any bets?
Oh! and by the way, about the pay difference between expats and Nigerians.... So a Nigerian that was fully sponsored all the way from 0 to ATPL (250,000 USD+), is given one or two multi-engine IFR type ratings, only knows how to fly on a straight line to and from the same few platforms, lives at home with his family and is given command in offshore CAT with only 2000+ hours.... this guy should be paid the same as an expat who has had to pay his own way to the top, has probably done a wide variety of helicopter operations (both as SIC and PIC), has "done his time" as SFO in other companies, has flown many different types, has 6, 7, 8 thousand hours ++, is away from his loved ones half of his life, and actually works 6 of 7 days every week!!...... These two guys should be paid the same!?!?!?!?!?!?!? Yeah right!! Come one!!!!!!!!!

So why exactly is the amount they get paid of such concern to you? Are they taking it out of your wage?
If life in Nigeria is so horrible and you hate being away from your loved ones, and this place is a grimy ****hole etc etc, then there is a very simple solution - get on the next flight out.
Did we beg you to come here? Are you here against your free will? Why would you put yourself through such mental and physical torture when it obviously is not worth it for you?
Book a ticket now and go home so that one of those wet-around-the-ears Nigerians fresh from Titusville can take your place and hopefully write off an airframe or two (the malice is positively pouring out of your keyboard).
I can never understand foreigners who come to a place like Nigeria of their own free will only to spend years moaning and whining about how Nigeria is...Nigeria.
You have options don't you?

Well, you see, as a Bristow employee, when money within the company is wasted, misplaced, or stolen, it affects me and all the other employees and share holders. Last time I checked this is a business, not a government well fare program.
About whether I should be here or not, let's not get personal as we don't know each other. If I choose to be here or not that is my problem. But, does choosing to be here mean I have to like everything, say yes to everything and look the other way when I see all the things already mentioned? I know I am not going to change the world and, as you say, Nigeria will continue to be... Nigeria. I am simply expressing my opinion.

Bristow NIGERIA
As a newly promoted Captain, it is my fervent wish that all expats who think they invented flying and have been paid way more for doing the same job as citizens will please GO home if they're so unhappy with management, living, or working conditions!
And in the meantime, I very much look forward to further upgrades of my friends so that more of us can have you doing the paperwork or taking orders for a refreshing, long over-due change!
Akin was the best and should have bounced more of you sooner than March; hopefully Obinna will carry his torch!
A complaining bunch of wife cheaters who can't afford to leave most likely!

YOU stated previously, that you are an expat and now you are posting as a national?
YOU say you are so happy to be in Nigeria with all your friends but than you can't wait to get out of here and you are so exited to have a job offer in Canada/ORNGE?
YOU bashed management in several post’s not too long ago and now the same people are your hero's?
YOU SirKORSKY are a fake and imposter of something you are not.

SirKorsky....pot calling the kettle black!
Seen it all before though, arrogant, newly qualified, no idea.
Not everything you say I disagree with but your clear inferiority complex and "big man in Africa" attitude is so common in Nigeria, Captain by name only I think.
Good luck generating any respect from your co-workers! Haha!
Attitudes like yours make me so glad I left that backwards dump when I did!
