Did Bristow do anything to you NEO?
It's all very puzzling, that even though some people were not accepted for VSP, the management still say that they don't have enough. It's pretty plain that they really knew all along who they wanted to get rid of, but hoped to tempt a few of those to go anyway with this VSP scheme so it looked as if it was being done fairly
.
What's the betting that within 6 months they'll be pleading with some people to come back as if time will erase the undoubted hardship which it will cause to some

How "these people" do business
It is very simple how "these peeples" do business: basically if you are not the right color be prepared to be screwed around or even inexplicably be fired. If you have the right smell and Color you therefore have the potential to, one day, become a "branch manager" regardless of your capabilities.

It's just a matter of time... things will get F'kt up by the Nigerians own doing, if its not the clients that complain or put their foot down first. Houstons hand will be forced and the xpats will be rolled back in...
Any suggestion that it can be run solely by domestic staff is a pipe dream. After all, if the capability was there in the first place there never would have been a need for expats period!
Just take a look at the Nigerian space program, now there's a raging success!
Bristow Nigeria will in a very short time be equivalent to the condition of the Nigerian military rotorcraft fleet... and that's run by Nigerians....
Should be an interesting show!
Lets not forget life started in Africa according to science, so considering they got a million year head start... could someone please explain why Africa is still dependent on the west?

Generalisation ?
After 23 years in Nigeria I beg to differ. In that time I saw my fair share of total f
k ups from both expats and Nationals, ranging from the quaintly incompetent to the downright dangerous. I guess that would apply anywhere in the world and therefore to any sort of National/expat.
"Black and white" is definitely not an adequate way to describe Nigeria or Africa et al, whatever area of expertise is being practised, despite the obvious parallels that can be drawn from skin tone.
I came across a lot of extremely intelligent, capable, well balanced Nigerians, many of whom remain my very good friends. Same applies to expats.
After the banking crisis, Euro crisis, Greek economic situation, U.S. Debt mountain and so on I hardly think anyone is in a position to criticise the mismanagement or stealing ? Of course, we can wring our hands and discuss............
Just my two penneth.

Even the Greeks manage to keep the power on. Nigeria, whilst I agree with your assessment of the many capable individuals, as a country underperforms to a degree that is simply staggering. There is virtually nothing that works satisfactorily. Airports, navaids, roads, power, water supply. They import fuel because it cannot be refined locally in sufficient quantity! They use military contractors to conduct operations. The list is endless. It just cannot be compared to any other country that I am aware of considering its resources.
There might be plenty of reasons for this but no one should for a minute think that the place would function without expats or international businesses. Lagos Airport is a good place to look around for evidence of various national aviation initiatives. The list of defunct airlines is extensive and the safety record is less than stellar. Corruption is absolutely rampant and reaches the highest levels of the country.
I enjoyed my time in Nigeria and think that Nigerians are incredibly charming and funny. Let's just not confuse that with good governance. I also submit that most Nigerians would agree. Furthermore, pointing this out does not make you a racist it merely shows that you are minimally observant.

Here in the UK we have had a government that sold our gold reserves at the lowest possible price while running the Exchequer like a melting credit card followed by one that with the best of intentions (perhaps) has left us with upwards of a million people using charity food banks. Multi-national conglomerates pay next to nil tax while householders are hounded, sometimes losing their homes in the process. In terms of poor governance and corruption Greece are now paying the price. And so on.
I was trying to point out that while Nigeria allows a privileged few to squander at the expense of the masses they are not unique and they have an excellent but largely untapped HR resource, some of whom I have had the pleasure of working with.

Well, lets see how the fallout from the cull here has gone. We've lost some good people and now with bad leadership I expect things will get worse. A couple of engineer mates on the Bristow contract with Everett in Tanzania tell that things there are even worse with the contract finishing at the weekend and a lot of people still not knowing what's going to happen to them. Some thought they were coming here, but that seems pretty unlikely looking at how many we're getting rid of. Some people are coming back for a final tour so unsure of exactly how many we've lost, but the short-term future is looking pretty grim.

My information says that some of the pilots and engineers from Tanzania will go to South Korea, some to Nigeria, possibly some on the good old gardening leave. It sounds as if Bristow have also failed in their bid to take over the ENI contract from CHC in Mozambique - but I don't think CHC are keeping it (another big blow for them). But hey, this is just a rumour network and I'm retired, wondering if my pension will be enough to the end of the year

It sounds as if Bristow have also failed in their bid to take over the ENI contract from CHC in Mozambique - but I don't think CHC are keeping it (another big blow for them).

The old empires tumble, the new empires rise - it's almost like an HBO series isn't it? Original Bristow gone, Schreiner gone, Okanagan gone, original PHI gone. Who knows Babcock/INAER? Who cares? They'll employ enough people from the ones who spent years in Africa to make it worth while
