Caverton is to take over the Shell contract from the Dancopter/Caverton next year with 7 AW139 (Shell wants 10, since they expect a minimum of 3 on the ground due to maintenance). The Dancopter helicopters will leave at the end of 2011 and/or beginning of 2012. Caverton is still looking for pilots, but would you fly for them?
They are also working together with Heli Onion in the Delta.

Hi Tango123
Thanks for the reply. Notwithstanding the rumour network bit I was curious to see how the operation was running and the ex-Bristow people are finding things. As I said there was a lot of noise on this forum regarding conjecture of life with Caverton. Just curious about the reality after a few months of operating.

OAS AS 350 Fatal Accident Nigeria
An AS350 Helicopter of OAS (Ogendene Air Shuttle) Helicopters, based in Maryland, Lagos has crashed in heavily wooded hills near Ife Odan in Osun State north-north east of Lagos. The aircraft departed Lagos at midday yesterday with the pilot, who is reported to be a Filipino national and 2 female passengers. A search was started when the helicopter became overdue and 3 bodies have been found in the wreckage on a hilltop.
The cause of the accident is not known, but the Nigerian Emergency management Agency, NEMA, reports that poor visibility may have been a contributory factor. For pilots used to flying helicopters only around the swamps of the Niger Delta, the area where the crash occurred is very different and the nearby Ejigbo forest reserve is a heavily wooded hilly area where much of the land is above the 1,000 foot level.
This is the second fatal accident for local operator OAS, another Ecureil having flown through power lines in bad weather in Ovwian Alaja near Warri on 10 November 2006.

Your post is in extremely poor taste to the point if being almost offensive immediately after the death of 3 people in a crash whose cause is, as yet, unknown

The simple way to handle Shelly is to check the box that says "Ignore"....that way one does not have to read his drivel. A week ago I decided to give him another chance and unmarked that box. That has been corrected as we speak!

German Helicopter company
Hi.
I am doing a little research work on the Helicopter companies in Nigeria, and was wondering if by any chance you know or have ever heard of any German based or German helicopter company in Nigeria, if any?
Any input will be highly appreciated.
Many thanks

Considering a move to African West Coast
2k hrs total time 1000 hrs offshore, instrument rating with 70 hrs actual, 600 hrs H-60 100 hrs Bell 212. No S76 time.
Currently flying EMS making 60k. I've heard that SIC pilots can make twice as much as a SIC in west africa, I've been told I'm not eligible for Captain because I don't have time in type. Thats fine with me. I'm only considering a move to West Africa for the 6 and 6 work schedule and the money.
For the guys that know do I have the minimums to get hired on as a SIC and with who? Who are the players there? I know this has been mentioned before but from what I can tell things seem to be extremely fluid there.
Are there any hints or advice you can give me? Very much appreciated!

.... and time on type (usually 100hrs minimum) as well. There's very little chance of getting an international job unless you already have time on S76, S92, AW139 or AS332/EC225. It's all down to oil company requirements for PICs, combined with what Canuck Guy and Um..lifting said about there being few SIC positions.
There used to be a time when US mil guys with H3 (S61) or 365 time could use those types to get in the door, but those are pretty much history and nowadays spending some time in the GOM is the only way to get experience in a viable type. Have a look at any recent CHC ad for the hrs required. Generally, none of those requirements can be bypassed.

Caverton Info Please!
So whats the deal with Caverton, I have seen the adverts on the internet for S76c++ pilots in Africa and am reliably informed its for Caverton in Lagos Nigeria. Being a Nigerian outfit does that mean they are to be avoided if you enjoy breathing?? Dont know zip about Caverton other than they have won Shell work with the help of Dancopter. Are they going to keep S76s or move to 139s, perhaps if there are any Caverton pilots on here you could elaborate?

It's a typical Nigerian company
Scam in Lagos State: Helicopters purchased for crime fighting are converted to private commercial use | Sahara Reporters
They have a sound financial base
http://www.cenbank.org/Out/publicati...KS14102009.pdf
They have a marine division as well
Nigeria Port Authority Fraud: Bode George
One of their directors, Edmund Maduabebe Daukoru, a former Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation is the Mingi of Nembe and a former Presidential Adviser on Petroleum Matters, and also famous for being one of those named in the huge Halliburton bribery scandal as already mentioned on the What's New in West Africa thread on Prune in May 2010.
Why not just try a search through that?
