Wink

We are now on the eve of a new dawn in Nigerian aviation.

To celebrate 50 years of Nigerian independence, Smell Perjury Debased Corrupt company is proud that from tomorrow their air logistics provider will be another bunch of Nigerian fraudsters, ably abetted by the debased aviation advisors of Smell Haircraft, Caverscum.

The doubters said it would never happen but with the expert help of Smell Aircraft In Decline's openly biased aviation connivers to lie, cheat and mis-manage the change, a questionably safe, questionably reliable, cost hiding, world class travesty is now in place.

Shell are demonstrating that the big western operators are not needed, just a bunch of crooked co-conspirators with huge cheque books, no morals and the ability to hide a $50 million mobilisation fee in the melee and confusion leading up to the Nigeria elections.

So did Caverton achieve the flying programme today - or was it a quiet day anyway being Independence Day?

SM If the 'recognition' of SAI is simply being asked to present to show some Powerpoint slides - big deal in my view.

Ther Shell presentation at the NLR safety day interesting avoided mentioning their last fatal air accident or that they had contracted aircraft with low spec windscreens. So much for 7/7=1 unless you think SAI see themselves as the denominator to reduce safety by a factor of 7.

All the doomsayers are silent - shows Shell's success!

The IHST was formed to promote SAI's 7/7=1 around the world.

Caverscam's start of the Smell contract was amazingly successful with no accidents or casualties recorded - possibly because they didn't carry out any flights . I wonder how long it will be before the people out in the swamps will notice . They're probably waiting to see how many manuals and check lists they've managed to steal from Bristow before flying. All pilots are reported to be extremely happy that they're free of the tyranny of Bristow and now they're crewing the contract with far fewer people, at last they'll have the opportunity to really get some serious flying done . Some of the personnel who have changed over have already been offered different deals from those they originally imagined they had, which is also leading to major happiness . As only the top tier of reputable pilots is now there, bar staff are breathing a sigh of relief that it's very unlikely anything will be damaged again as all the somewhat deranged people who suffered from drink and anger management problems have now left. The Small Haircraft connivers who have worked so hard to get rid of Bristow and have been conducting a smear campaign against them for the last few months, will now doubtless be relieved that they have managed change in a wonderful fashion, which will be incorporated into a new template as the basis on which all new contract changes should be based. Bahhhh, bahhhhh, bahhhh

I can smell the stench of corruption even from the lands of the North, where the Black Rocks stand guard against the cold sea, in the dark night that is very long. Now beds will have to be lain in by those who have chosen them - good luck.

The idea that Shell is bad mouthing a major contractor to justify a risky and flawed contract award really is repugnent.

It is ironic the contract started the same day as a change in leadership at bp after a major disaster. One can only wonder whose head will roll after this clusterf"c£. I believe the Shell manager who chose the 155 and 328 was at least forced out even though he had the sense to use a competent operator. I just hope no one will die from the current mess.

How Shell Aircraft can pontificate about safety while jumping to an untried joint venture of very dubious parentage, with an aircraft that is not as modern as the other type they were offered?

Clearly Shell are just spewing mindless retoric.

Deadly car bombs in Abudja today do not bode well for the 2011 elections
BBC News - Nigeria independence celebrations marred by blasts
Will Shell pull out entirely.
Perhaps they will then cut some aviation deadwood in Lagos and Rotterdam.

All those posts here and on another aviation forum are quite funny.

Sounds like only Bristow is able to do the Smell job.

Everybody is expecting Caverton to start flying 1st of october the 155's left by Bristow without proper acceptance. Would Bristow do that? No. Please be a bit professional, it's not a peanuts business at the market we are talking about

Caverton is a new player in this game, for sure they will have some problems at beginning but does that mean they will fail ? Future will tell...
Agip operation is far from a full success for Bristow.

How many Bristow pilots have resigned to join the so called Caverscam? If they were so good yesterday with Bristow, then suddenly they won't be able to do the same job with a Caverton uniform flying the same choppers out of the same locations?

The 3 Dancopter 155B1 are flying daily

Give them a break.
Don't spit in the soup you might need a new job tomorrow and like most of us here you enjoy your nigerian salary At least thanks to Caverton you've got an significant increase on you salary

froggy,

I don't think anybody minds DanCopter coming in as they are an honest, professional operator - though it was rather amusing that even after being after the contract for so long they couldn't mobilise their aircraft in time for the start!

What most people do mind is that a company with very dodgy beginnings (have you read all the reports on Sahara Reporters) and with questionable (definitely not European or North American) business ethics and practices, should be gifted the Smell contract.

Only 12 pilots left Bristow to go to Caverscam and if they could be flying the (Shell owned) EC155s yesterday, why shouldn't they be flying them today? At least 2 of the pilots who are now with Caverscam had to leave either the Smell operation or Bristow under something of a cloud and now they're back and a couple who were not considered to be ready to fly as Captains will now be doing so.

The Smell Aircraft advisors have also been somewhat economical with information they are presenting to Smell as facts and have managed the change very poorly, but conniving with certain people they wanted to come over to set things up. It's my belief that they and Caverscam totally miscalculated on the number of people who would be willing to leave a world-class known quantity to join what is perceived by many as a dodgy operator with no track record.

Nobody has yet received any increase in salary that I'm aware of because of Caverscam and it has not yet been established that all those people who have joined Caverscam have received what they were promised or that they will continue to do so in the future.

The 3 DanCopter EC155B1s will probably have to continue flying daily because unless Caverscam can get enough suitably qualified pilots soon, they will run out of hours - though doubtless Smell will bend over backwards to change the rules as they already have to make it easier for them.

There is too much high level politics involved in this for anyone to be prepared to give a break to a company which is not operating to the same rules or on the same playing field as anybody else, although everybody knows Caverscam will not be allowed to fail under the present political regime (and probably not under the next regime because until now, and doubtless in the future, the Nigerian 'big men' always survive and are able to exert their corrupting influence on whichever puppets are presented to the tired people of this country as the leaders.

I'm sure you'll enjoy flying the AW139 for them - but for how long? Many of us have principles and would rather stack shelves on a night shift at WalMart than try out a company like Caverscam. The soup is already tainted anyway and a bit of spit in it might just be an improvement

Tombola

Apparently you know a lot ... so tell me which AW139 I will be flying for them, the Caverton one or maybe the CHC one or could it be the Heli Onion one ?

When you say "Many of us" who are you to talk for others, just talk for yourself only please.

I am really sorry for you that the 5% increase was just only a rumour

Nothing personal

Caverton can expect a steady stream of Bristow pilots following the money.

Just look at the questions being asked on other fora:

Looking for information from all of the present or past Bristow employees out there. If a person is on a 6wk in and 6wk out tour..........does a person give notice to Bristow to quit at the beginning of a tour going in..or at the end of a tour coming out?

Shell Management,

The mere use of the non-existent word maline is a sure indicator of who you really are, but your malign posts will never hide the truth. As to your pointer to Fly Africa, you are both misdirected as well as semi-literate, thus giving away your identity yet again to those of us who until now have sat, cogitated and watched - a few Smell courses is not the same as an education.

froggy,

i possibly know more than you - time will tell and i have certainly been here long enough to know who you are but you cannot say the same, though I do not kiss and tell. Heli Onion are unlikely to be flying an AW139 in Nigeria (S76 is more likely), CHC is teetering on the brink of extinction in Nigeria, so which one will you be flying ? You tell me.

Many of us is not a rumour, work the math yourself when I tell you the fact that only 12 pilots left Bristow for Caverscam - that's a considerable minority of those employed on the contract. I am perfectly happy with what I get and am one of those who would happily stack shelves at WalMart rather than sacrifice my principles - but then again I may not be French, so I actually have principles. Enjoy your time in Nigeria thinking you are one of us.

Well said.
There is too much casual racism in suggesting the French are all onion eaters or Nigerians corrupt.

TB Shell have an excellent learning and development process. Just look at how well the Aviation Advisors are trained.

Smell Damagement,

I have been looking at how well Small Haircraft managers are trained, but spelling obviously isn't on the curriculum. At least your last post was correctly spelt, but where are you going with onion eaters and corrupt Nigerians? Does that mean I am corrupt?

TB I'm sure you are not corrupt and would never suggest such a thing.
You probably read the OED to much but thats not a sin.

Actually, my dictionary of choice, is usually Chambers because it's more frequently revised and easily available online, and I like its inclusion of obscure and obsolete words, though I know OEDis better for etymology.

Does the lack of firm news about the Shell Caverton operation indicate humble success or secretive failure?

Looking at some of the members here, I would think that ego would dictate shrill, prolonged trumpeting of any form of success, however minor......

Question

Well, I say, what a lot of talk eh? These Caverscam chaps seem to be something of a bunch of upstart Johnnies-come-lately who're upsetting the jolly old applecart by not quite doing things by the rules. A rather infra dig shower of spivs who wear pointed shoes, have shirts with pink buttonholes and wear silly, floppy, polka dot hankies in the pockets of their polyester suits. It really isn't done, which presumably is why the only people prepared to tergiversate when they took over from old man Bristow's lot are an ill-matched crowd of ne'er do well chaps from the Antipodes, one certifiable Saffer (as the Orange Free State crowd seem to be known these days), one bellicose Yankee and his memsahib who seem to sign themselves off as a single entity and a few assorted junior ranks, newly promoted to the upper regions. They're fighting for control with some Danish chappies (known as the Latins of Scandinavia by their fellow Vikings apparently) who think they're a cut above the rest because they've flown their helicopters over a different bit of sea in Europe. I suppose it's all very logical if you're a foreigner?

Then we have this chappie putatively from an industrial conglomerate which imagines that drilling lots of holes and polluting the planet makes it a world leader in safety? All sounds a bit rum to me! This conglomerate's management guru is of the belief that working more is a sign of greater safety and happiness? Certainly wouldn't suit me - extra time in the garden cultivating the asparagus patch and a few chota pegs or pink gins with the mesahib on the verandah in the evening, while watching the sun tracing its ecliptic below the perfect flat horizon and the celestial sphere fills with the glory of the constellations over the Broads, is never something one would sacrifice to help some bounders who've done everything on the QT
