NEO,

Now let me get this straight....you copped an attitude that day?

Is that what you are saying?

Good thing it was a talking bone and not a Motorola at hand, eh?

Otherwise, we may have had a common tale to tell!

What raised my ire was being told that two Canadian Helicopters Pilots being surrounded by a hostile mob of Somali's with no Security or means to defend themselves was none of my or Bristow's business.

The suggestion that if the shoe was on the other foot....I would certainly hope CHC would have a much different view of the matter was not well received either.

But...that is as they say...Piss under the Tail Boom!

The company management's reaction to the Security threat over the Years has not been very....shall we say......effective or appropriate.

The Clients never seemed too good either.

Just like when the 412 went down on the Night Casevac for Texaco....and it was the Clinic that reported the Aircraft overdue by asking when it was supposed to arrive.

Paper Plans might look good....but reality has a way of rendering them useless.

Ah, Sasless; easy to slate people now I guess ? If my post comes across that way that was never my intention. The support from Bristow (with the exception of the then Snr VP Ops) was excellent. All he seemed to care about was retaining the contract.

The worst injured of the two wounded people, an absolute gentleman whom I remain in touch with and has thankfully regained his licence, were both supported medically. Were it not for said VP they would have gotten a much better compensation package.

Your situation appears (as it did then) to be much more personal.

Cheers, and remember you only live once; don't waste time holding grudges.

NEO

bh4122tt, me too, but I'm still planning to sit and shoot the s**t in Old Town.

Sasless,

I've re-read my post and suspect you misunderstood me; my intention was to outline a series of events and not to get personal, but I wrote it badly. That VP got what was coming to him in the fullness of time and eventually things got a lot better for the staff, clients and contractors. I didn't and never have held a personal grudge against him as he no doubt had constraints too, although he came across as a pretty arrogant individual.

As I pointed out in a previous post and perhaps a life lesson learnt as a result of my long illness, life is far too short to hold a personal grudge; it's far too precious and sometimes unexpectedly short to waste feelings and emotions hating somebody when whatever they did or didn't do will never be reciprocated or rectified. Look at the number of friends and associates we've all lost over the years ?

I see and speak to soggyboxers fairly regularly (we drink, he falls asleep )and we've had the same conversation many times remembering our years at WT; he has similar feelings about the Count but we laugh about it.

Nigeria is such a different place now, those days are long gone.

Cheers and enjoy your retirement.

Soggy fell asleep like that over thirty years ago....he put it down to the company he was keeping and not the drink as I opined.

Sas,

Absolutely ! He has never been a drinker. He used to miss the TV when he was throwing beer cans in Number 17 !

I wouldn't be surprised if there's a reply to these posts........

Cheers,

If you just sit on the riverbank long enough, you will see all your enemies float past.

Islands In The Stream ?

Gotta love Kenny and Dolly ! I guess some people would need to be sat by the Thames, Amazon or Mississippi Delta to see all their enemies ? I'd like to think a quiet babbling brook would suffice for mine.

I was not a regular in Warri, being an aviator and all, but I do remember one night having dinner with drinks at Auntie's Kitchen with the crew from WT. Well, really it was having drinks, mostly, but never mind that now.

I was deep in conversation about Wimmin's Rights then with a young, somewhat idealistic Brit. I thought that we were both having a joke, given all the young, fit bints flitting past on some sort of private errands which I took to involve "money for hand, back for ground; the world's oldest profession." Who could stay that idealistic in that sump of depravity?

Then dinner arrived, breaded giant prawns dripping with oil. "Are these fried in King's Oil?" asked our idealist.

"Oh, yes Sah!" came the reply.

"I never eat anything fried in King's Oil," said the idealist.

"Oh, goody," said I, "I will have them." At that point it became clear that the man really did believe all that feminist stuff that i was just parroting, having a joke!

We really need to know the identity of the idealist Brit.........

Although there were a few who arrived and had trouble adjusting to the cultural differences along with the "ribald" attitude.

One Man & His Dog.....

griffo,

Probably true and it was only surpassed by Eket which was the "sump" for all the naughty boys for a while. Many myths and legends emanated from those two operations.

Dink was the sanest among the PTSD Vietnam vets at Eket. Ed "The Head", Wayne "The Pain", Tony the Portishead radio account thief plus quite a few mad Brits. A truly memorable bunch. I went to the airstrip for a 206 VMCBC and the TRE (a Brit) turned up 20 minutes late, vomited down the side of the aircraft, got into a car and left; job done !

Class Warfare

Sas,

Dead right; we worked like hell (work hard, play hard), single pilot 212/206/355. They socialised with their Shell superiors and flew 3 crew when they couldn't manipulate the roster. A true "us and them" scenario.

I was banned from their bar for 18 months for being myself; I struggle to find the words that can adequately express my sense of loss.......

Cheers,

NEO
